Setting up your BYO modem
In this article, we'll help you set up your own modem on our network. Whether you're reusing a modem from a previous provider or setting up a new one, we'll guide you through the process to help get you connected as smoothly as possible.
We support a range of modems, but as every device is a little different, it's important to check if your modem is compatible. If you run into any issues, we'll do our best to get your nbn® modem working, though support for non-Optus modems is limited.
Before starting
Is your modem compatible?
To work with our network, your modem should:
- Be less than five years old (recommended)
- Support nbn® connections
- Allow configuration for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
How to check:
- Look for the brand and model number on your modem.
- If you're unsure, search online for your modem's manual, which often includes configuration instructions, including how to enable or adjust DHCP settings.
