Enabling your Telstra modem/router to work with Optus
In this article, we'll help you set up your Telstra modem to help you get connected to our network as smoothly as possible.
We support a range of modems, but as every device is a little different, it's important to check if your modem is compatible. If you run into any issues, we'll do our best to get your nbn® modem working, though support for non-Optus modems is limited.
If you brought your Telstra Smart Modem to a telco, such as TPG, Dodo or Exetel, before bringing it to Optus, you may need to reset your modem to its factory settings so it can work with Optus.
To reset your modem to factory settings physically:
- With a pin or paperclip, find the hole at the back of your modem that says 'Reset'
- Insert the pin or paperclip and hold it for about 10 seconds
- The lights of your modem should flash
- Allow 5 minutes for the reset to finalise - this will be completed when the lights are green
To reset your modem to factory settings using a browser:
- In your internet browser, type http://192.168.0.1 or http://mygateway/ into the browsers address bar and press enter
- Login with these details:
- Username: admin
- Password (depending on your modem type):
- Smart Modem 1.1 or Gen 2: Telstra
- Gen 3: you can find this on the bottom of the modem
- Navigate to 'Advanced' and select 'Management'
- Select 'System Reset' and then 'Reset'
- Allow 5 minutes for the reset to finalise - this will be completed when the lights are green
