The McAfee^® Safe Family App is available as a free optional extra on an Optus Family Plan and an Optus Kids Plan.

Eligible customers can opt-in to the McAfee^® Safe Family subscription at the time of signing up, or any time after in the My Optus app for the duration of the plan.

Once you opt-in, you'll be sent an SMS or email (based on your preference) with a unique URL to access and download your free subscription of the McAfee^® Safe Family App.

To ensure you get the McAfee^® Safe Family App at no cost, follow the steps below under the How to set up the McAfee^® Safe Family App tab.

If you've lost your unique activation URL, you can have it resent by contacting us.

How to activate via the My Optus app

1. Open the My Optus app
2. Select your Primary Family Plan account from the top left menu
   
   
   
3. Click Service
   
   
   
4. Click Add-ons
   
   
   
5. Click McAfee Safe Family App
   
   
   
6. Click Activate my subscription
   
   
   
7. You'll receive an SMS / Email with your unique URL to download McAfee^® safe Family App
8. Follow the steps below under How to set up the McAfee^® Safe Family App

The McAfee^® Family Safe App can run on iOS 8.0 and later.

1. Click on the unique URL from your activation SMS or email
2. You'll be sent to a page. From the page click Download
3. You'll be directed to the App Store. Download the app 
   
   
   • Note: You must use the unique URL to access your free subscription. If you download the App directly from an App Store, you may be charged for your subscription
   • If you haven't received / lost your unique URL have it resent by contacting us
     
     
4. Click Create account and fill in your details
5. Assign the device to you by clicking This is my device
   
   
   
6. Download the McAfee® Safe Family App on each of your kids' devices
   • You can download the App from either the activation email / SMS or directly from the App Store. Search Safe Family
     
     
7. Sign in with the account details you created on your device
8. Assign the device to your kid by clicking This is my kid's device
   
   
   
9. Click Add a kid to add each of your kids to the family and fill in their details
   
   
   
10. Follow the same process on all your kid's devices
11. Check the boxes to set permissions and click Next
    
12. You'll be asked to configure the device. Click Install now > Allow on the pop-up
    
    
    
13. Click Install again and enter your device passcode
14. Click Install >Trust on the pop-up
    
    
    
15. Now that your profiles are set up, you can set Family rules - check the How to set up Family Rules tab below for more details
    

Note: You'll receive a notification if your child deletes the App.

The McAfee^® Safe Family App can run on Android 4.0 and later.

To get set up, follow the instructions below:

1. Follow the link from your activation SMS / email to download the McAfee® Safe Family App
   
   
   • Note: You must use the unique URL to create a free subscription. If you download the App directly from a Google Play Store, you'll be charged to create a subscription
   • If you haven't received / lost your unique have it resent by contacting us
     
     
2. You'll be directed to a download screen - Click Download Safe Family
3. Click Create account and fill in your details
4. Assign the device to you by clicking This is my device
   
   
   
5. Download the McAfee^® Safe Family App on each of your kids' devices
   • You can download the App from either the activation email / SMS or directly from the Google Play Store. Search Safe Family
     
     
6. Sign in with the account details you created on your device
7. Assign the device to your kid by clicking This is my kid's device
   
   
   
8. Click Add a kid to add each of your kids to the family and fill in their details
   
   
   
9. Follow the same process on all your kid's devices
10. Check the boxes to set permissions and click Next
11. Now that your profiles are set up, you can set Family rules - check the How to set up Family Rules tab below for more details
    

Note: Your kids won't be able to delete the App without your log in details.  

The McAfee^® Safe Family App can run on the following:

• Windows 8, 8.1

To set up McAfee^® Safe Family App on Windows desktop:

1. Follow the link from your activation SMS / email to download the McAfee^® Safe Family App
   
   
   • Note: You must use the link to create a free account. If you download the App directly from the McAfee^® website, you'll be charged to create an account
   • If you haven't received / lost your activation link contact us to have it sent again
     
     
2. You'll be directed to a download screen - Click Download Safe Family
3. Click Create account and fill in your details
4. Assign the device to you by clicking This is my device
   
   
   
5. Head to the McAfee^® website to download the McAfee^® Safe Family App onto your kid's computers
6. Sign in with the account details you created
7. Assign the device to your kid by clicking This is my kid's device
8. Click Add a kid to add each of your children to the family and fill in their details
   
   
   
9. Follow the same process on all your kid's devices
10. Now that your profiles are set up, you can set Family rules - check the How to set up Family Rules tab below for more details

You can block or allow access to specific apps and websites. You can do this by app/website category or narrow it down to an individual app/website.

Note: Your child won't be able to view your web or app activity.

1. From the Home Screen > Select which kid you want the rule to apply to
2. Click Rules
   
   
   
3. Open the Apps or Web section to create rules
   
   

You can limit what time your kids can access their devices and for how long.

1. From the Home Screen > Select which kid you want the rule to apply to

3. Open the Screen time section to set rules
   
   

You can locate on a map all your registered family members based on the device they're using.

Note: Your child won't be able to view your location.
