How do I recycle my device and equipment?

Optus proudly supports MobileMuster, the product stewardship recycling program of the telecommunications industry, funded by the handset manufacturers and the network providers. MobileMuster is accredited by the Federal Government and it provides a free mobile phone recycling program in Australia.

Through the MobileMuster program, you can recycle a variety of old and unwanted mobile, home and Internet devices and equipment.

The devices and equipment needn't be hardware Optus has previously supplied you.

Optus stores will accept any of the items on behalf of MobileMuster listed below.

To recycle your equipment, find your nearest MobileMuster collection point or drop it off in a MobileMuster bin at any Optus store.

Optus stores will accept any of the below items on behalf of MobileMuster:

Mobiles & tablets
Batteries, chargers and accessories
Modems (except Optus 5G Wireless models)
Routers and landline phones
Smart home tech (smart speakers and monitoring devices)
Wearables (smart watches, tracking devices and virtual reality headsets)
Gaming tech (consoles, docking devices and controllers)
Cables

What happens to the device and equipment?

MobileMuster ensures that:

Over 95% of materials in a mobile phone are recovered. All equipment collected will be recycled for resource recovery
Nothing is resold. MobileMuster provides a safe and secure recycling process
100% carbon neutral -
Accredited by the Federal Government
100% data destruction. Any data on the device and equipment will be destroyed through the recycling process
