How to return a Mobile device or watch to Optus

This article explains how to return a Mobile device or watch to Optus. The return will need to have been confirmed and arranged with Optus first.

Once a return has been organised, you'll receive an eParcel return label via email. This will contain an eParcel Return Reference number.

Take the device and eParcel Return Reference number or electronic copy of the return label (e.g. on your phone) to an Australia Post outlet with label printing services. Australia Post outlets with label printing services can be found at: https://auspost.com.au/print-locations.

Australia Post will:

    • Print the return label
    • Package the device for return
    • Provide a return receipt

Alternatively, you can print the Australia Post return label and package the device yourself. Note:

    • If you package the device yourself, you are responsible for making sure it's done securely
    • Attach the eParcel return label to the package. Make sure there is no tape covering the barcode
    • Post it at an Australia Post outlet or in a red Australia Post box

When returning a used device make sure to:

    1. Unlock the device
    2. Back up and remove all personal information
    3. Check the battery for damage

    Unlock the device

We cannot process a device return if the device is locked. Removing locks from your phone includes screen locks and PIN codes.

For Android devices, make sure to:

      • Remove your Google Account
      • Disable Google Factory Reset Protection
      • Turn off Samsung Activation / Reactivation lock (Samsung only)

    For Apple devices, please disable:

      • Find my iPhone
      • Activation lock
      • Deactivate Apple ID

For more information on your specific device, see our Device Guides.

Back up and remove all personal information

You must also wipe the device clean of all personal and confidential information before returning it. To delete data from your phone, see these instructions on how to perform a factory reset on iPhone. Here's how to factory reset your Android phone.

Before resetting your device, make sure to back up all the data stored on your phone and remove your SIM and memory cards.

    Check the battery for damage

If your device has battery related issues such as a swollen battery / device, is generating unusual heat or emitting an odour, it isn't safe to send.

Even if you arranged through Optus to return it via Australia Post, to ensure we can return the device with appropriate packaging and care, this device must be returned via an Optus Store.

You may need to return multiple items, e.g. Mobile phone and watch, mobile phone and modem, two mobile phones etc. If so, these need to be returned individually with their own eParcel return labels. To organise another eParcel return if needed, contact us.

You can track your return using the Australia Post website: https://auspost.com.au/mypost/track/#/search.

Track using the eParcel Return Reference number. Example below:

Once our warehouse receives and scans in your device as returned, you'll receive a notification (email or text) and any information for what to expect next.

If an incorrect order has been delivered, these need to be returned unopened in their original packaging. Please refer to the Optus Returns Policy for more information.

For information on warranty or repair returns refer to Mobile device repairs & replacements.

When returning a modem, NCD or Fetch set-top-box and accessories, make sure to include everything that came together (e.g. accessories, power cables, remote controls, etc).
