Gen 2 set top box being retired by Fetch

Fetch has announced that the Gen 2 set top boxes will no longer be supported, and therefore won't operate, from 1 November 2024.

Existing Fetch customers through Optus who are using a Gen 2 set top box have the option to:

  • Upgrade to a Fetch Mighty set top box (at no additional charge) to continue using the Fetch service after 31 October 2024, or
  • Cancel their Fetch service before 31 October 2024 or wait for it to stop working from 1 November 2024

If you got an email from us back in September 2023 stating the Gen 2 will be retired on 1 November 2023, please note the retirement date change.

Note. Your Gen 2 set top box doesn't need to be returned. Please dispose of it thoughtfully.

For detail on the different set top boxes and your options, or to answer a common question, see below.

      *4K requires a 4K TV, 4K content and a minimum broadband speed of 15Mbps

For more on the different Fetch set top boxes, see the Fetch user guides.

To continue using Fetch after 31 October 2024, you'll need to upgrade your set top box to a Mighty.

There is no cost to upgrade from a Gen 2 to a Mighty set top box.

    Upgrade process

To upgrade through our Contact Centres, please contact us.

Note. There is no online method to upgrade your set top box.

If you don't wish to upgrade, you don't need to do a thing and your Gen 2 set top box will cease to operate from 1 November 2024.

    • If you only had the Gen 2 set top box, your Fetch service will be cancelled on 31 October 2024
    • If you wish to cancel your Fetch service before then, please contact us
    • If you have a Multiroom service, Fetch will remain active. Any Mini or Mighty set top box charges and channel pack monthly charges will continue

Note. There is no online method to cancel your Fetch service.

What about existing recordings and purchased content?

If you decide to upgrade to a Mighty and you had recordings saved to your Gen 2, they will be lost once you receive your new Mighty and can't be transferred across. However, any purchased content such as movies and TV shows, will be available on your new Mighty.

If you cancel your Fetch service, any existing recordings saved on your Gen 2 set top box will be lost when it stops operating. You'll also lose access to any purchased content.

What to do with your old Fetch set top box?

Your Fetch Gen 2 doesn't need to be returned and can be disposed of thoughtfully or via an e-waste recycling facility.

Many local councils and recycling centres offer e-waste recycling, which can be located here.

    What about Optus Sport?

If you have an Optus Sport account, you can continue to access it through your other compatible devices. For more, see How to watch Optus Sport.

What charges will be applied or continue to be charged if I cancel?

No cancellation fee will be charged, whether you cancel your Fetch service before 31 October 2024, or allow it to cease.

Any pending charges will appear on your next bill / invoice (e.g. movie rentals). No further charges will be applied after that.

If you have a Multiroom service, Fetch will remain active. Any Mini or Mighty set top box charges and channel pack monthly charges will continue.
