nbn® Technology Change (Fibre Connect)

Fibre Connect is an optional nbn technology upgrade offer - for eligible customers who want to access faster speeds by upgrading their existing FTTN or FTTC connections to FTTP.

Customers at eligible addresses can access a nbn Fibre Upgrade to FTTP at no extra cost with a standard installation.

  • FTTN to FTTP: Customers need to be on an Optus Home Fast plan, Business Essential plan, equivalent Speed Pack (Speed Pack 3+) or higher for at least 1 month, to get the Fibre Upgrade.
  • FTTC to FTTP: Customers can get the Fibre Upgrade on any nbn speed plan. If you’re on an Everyday or Basic plan or Business nbn Starter plan, you can upgrade via online chat, in store or by calling 133 937.

Fibre Connect is available to new and existing Optus nbn Home and business internet customers who meet the above criteria. Optus Mobile and 4G / 5G Home and business internet customers will also be able to access the offer if they connect an eligible Optus nbn internet service.

For more information on Fibre Connect, see the FAQs below, or get in touch with our experts.

You don't have to take a new modem to upgrade, however it's important to note that when ordering certain speed packs some modems won't fully support the higher speeds, which may impact your experience. For example, some older Optus modems don't support Business Premium, Superfast and Ultrafast speeds. If you are using a BYO modem, you should check the supported speeds with the manufacturer as you will be required to acknowledge that your BYO modem may not be capable of delivering the higher speeds.

Yes, as some trenching and drilling may be necessary it's important that the rental provider gives permission. In some instances, it may not be possible for the FTTP equipment to be installed in the same location as the FTTN / FTTC equipment.

If you haven’t received the necessary approval, the installation can not proceed. To make this easier, download this Renters Permission Template and send it to your landlord or property manager, so they can complete and return it to you. We recommend getting written approval before booking your appointment to ensure a smoother process.
