Home Fast Speed Trial | November 2025

You have been contacted about a free speed upgrade trial that has been made to your nbn Internet service.  In this article, we'll explain what the trial is and the trial period, and how to ensure you take advantage of the trial.

What is the speed trial?

Eligible customers have been given a free trial of the new Home Fast speed. This means that until 15 March 2026, you can access 10x the typical download speed of your current plan at no extra cost.  Your plan’s Typical Busy Period speeds will increase from 50/18Mbps to 500/43Mbps*.

*Typical Busy Period Speeds: 7am-11pm. HFC and FTTP only.
The Typical Busy Period Speeds advertised for the new nbn speed tiers are our best estimate, based on the attained speed data.

What do I need to do next?

There’s nothing you need to do as your service will automatically enjoy this trial upgrade. Everything else associated with your nbn plan remains the same - the speed upgrade will not impact your plan price, any inclusions, add-ons, special discounts, or other promotions you may already have, and your billing cycle will remain the same.

Handy tips to get the most out of the speed trial

To get the most out of your new faster broadband speeds, we recommend reviewing your home network set up.  This would help getting faster speeds in more areas of your home. Don’t forget Wi-Fi signals weaken with distance or if the signal has to travel through solid objects. This will impact the speed of the connection.

1. Improve your Wi-Fi experience by positioning your modem in a central part of the home

2. Connect to your Wi-Fi using the 5Ghz network. To find out more, see information relating to band steering here.

3. For devices that have high streaming or download demands (like gaming consoles or smart TVs), we recommend connecting them with an ethernet cable.

4. Make sure your connected devices are capable of supporting the higher speeds.

Modem compatibility

Your modem/router, and how it is set up within your premises, could limit you from utilising your maximum speed of your internet plan.

We want to make sure that you’re set up to get the maximum speed available. If you’re using an Optus supplied modem, please refer to the below table for advice on compatibility with the nbn speed changes.

If you’re using your own modem at your premises, we recommend you use one that has a ‘Wi-Fi 5’ specification or higher for the Fast speed plan. These modems are designed to support the new, faster nbn speeds.
