About usage alerts
Optus Business sends automatic SMS and email usage alerts for compatible post-paid mobile and mobile broadband personal liability plans. Best of all, these alerts are free and require no setup.
How do usage alerts work?
For personally liability post-paid mobile phone or corporate employee plans usage alerts will be sent by SMS after you've reached 50%, 85%, 100% of your included standard talk value, or 50%, 85%, 100% of your included data, whichever comes first.
For data only plans, for example an Optus Employee Tablet or a Mobile Broadband plan, we will let you know by email after you've have reached 50%, 85% and 100% of your included monthly value for data.
What if you haven't received your alert?
If you haven't received your usage alert or if your data only service has received an SMS alert - please contact customer care.
When are they sent?
Usage alerts are sent during the hours of 10.00am-8.00pm (AEST). Alerts are not generated in real-time and a delay of up to 48 hours may be experienced. Therefore you should not rely on the usage alert service as the sole means of monitoring your mobile usage.
What other options are available to monitor my usage?

What alerting preferences do I have?
- You can receive your alerts on a single service where you have multiple services on the same account.
- You can change your alerting from SMS to email and back again for mobile phone services.
- You can change the email address where alerts are sent.
- You can nominate a different mobile service number for SMS alerts to be sent to.
Please contact customer care using the contact details below to change your preferences.
Note: that data only service requires you to receive the alerts on your nominated email account. If you do not nominate an email address or fail to respond to Optus' request to set up your nominated email address, your alert will revert to SMS alerts to your data only SIM card (and will need to be viewed on an SMS-enabled device).
