Am I safe from scams now?
No. Optus can't stop all suspicious SMS' or calls reaching you, so you're encouraged to remain vigilant.
Why am I still receiving scam SMS' and calls if Optus can block them?
Scammers react quickly and constantly adapt to new technology, making it difficult for Optus to identify and block every single scam. This is why we need your help to report suspicious SMS, so we can continue to protect you and the Optus community.
How is Optus blocking scam SMS' and calls?
Optus has many systems and processes in place across the mobile network to identify and blocks scam calls and SMS', including:
- Sender and Caller IDs
- Suspicious keywords
- Volumes of calls and SMS'
- Suspicious calling and SMS patterns
- Location
Will you store my data when I report an SMS?
We only store the content of the SMS provided, nothing else.
What about reporting scam calls?
Optus ScamWise doesn't allow the reporting of scam calls in My Optus app yet. However, you can report suspicious calls and / or phone numbers to the Australian government at ScamWatch.
I don't have an Optus Mobile but can still see Optus ScamWise. Can I use it?
If you don't have an Optus Mobile service but have Optus nbn, you'll still be able to see Optus ScamWise and the related features in My Optus app.
However, if you report a suspicious SMS you received, it'll be sent to Optus. You may wish to report it to your current Mobile service provider as well.
