We're making improvements to our OptusNet service

Optus is making significant upgrades to our OptusNet email service, a service that's been provided to our customers for nearly 30 years.. We're investing in the Optusnet email service in order to deliver a more secure, modern email service that will provide benefits for our customers.

To enhance our customers' email experience, we're upgrading our OptusNet email service to a new, more secure and modern webmail platform that will deliver improved functionality, security and better overall performance to our customers.

Optus is committed to improving the OptusNet email experience for our customers.

OptusNet has been an excellent email platform for Optus customers for approximately 30 years. Since that time email technology has evolved in terms of useability and security. In order to bring those improvements to our customers, Optus has decided to update our email service to a new hosted solution.

This will provide the benefit of a modern email platform that reduces spam and offers enhanced security and privacy to our customers.

The upgrade to the new email platform aims to improve user experience by addressing current security and spam related issues. Some of these additional benefits include:

  • Enhanced security and privacy

Your data will be encrypted and protected using rigorous international infrastructure security standards.

  • Reduced spam

Improved filters and advanced security measures to better protect your mailbox from spam.

  • Modern webmail design

The new webmail interface is designed with user experience in mind, providing a modern layout that is simple and intuitive.

  • Improved functionality

Expect better performance, faster load times and a range of new features that make managing your emails simpler and more efficient.

No, we're not shutting down our OptusNet service. In fact, we're investing in the service to improve its functionality, security and the overall customer experience.

The upgrade to the new OptusNet email hosting platform is expected to commence from mid-February 2025. This will be done progressively to ensure there are no service disruptions.

Below are some frequently asked questions that OptusNet customers may have.

FAQs

I haven’t had an active eligible product for some time, can I retain my active OptusNet email service?

Yes, you can continue using your existing OptusNet email unless we advise otherwise.

However, without an active eligible Optus product (including Mobile Broadband, nbn, 4G or 5G Home internet, Postpaid  mobile or Fetch service or a connected device linked to your account, some ancillary functions may be limited. In particular, you may not be able to reset your password, as this requires your details to be associated with an eligible Optus service so we can verify ownership.

If you contact us for support and we’re unable to confirm your ownership of the OptusNet email, you may be asked to complete the Statutory Declaration form.

No, your email address will not change, so you'll be able to keep your existing OptusNet email address.

Yes, if you use webmail to access your OptusNet service you'll notice a new look mailbox interface that we hope you enjoy using. It will continue to be easy to use and navigate. When you first access your new mailbox, you'll be provided with a tutorial to help you get the most from this new interface.

Your emails and folders will continue to be available in the new platform.

Your current mailbox content like emails and existing folders will be automatically accessible in the new platform, however, it is always good practice to backup your data, including email.

No, the new email platform and webmail interface will replace the older version so it will not be possible to switch back to the older interface.

The upgrade will occur automatically without you needing to do anything on your side. Once you've been upgraded, you'll see the new webmail interface and can start using your email immediately. Please note that during the upgrade process there will a brief moment where you are unable to access your OptusNet service, this moment is expected to last up to 2 minutes.

Yes, you'll continue to access your OptusNet email service as you always have. There will be no changes to the way in which you access your OptusNet service.

If you have not used your Optusnet email in a while, it may have been closed. Please see the article We're checking the status of your OptusNet email service for more information.

We're continuing to provide email services to our existing OptusNet email customers. At this stage however, new OptusNet email services are currently not available.

Yes, customers with an active eligible Optus Service will continue to access their Optusnet email service at no additional charge on the OptusNet Basic plan. Don't worry, we'll notify you if this ever changes and present options before any charging would occur, so that you can decide what you'd prefer to do.
