Qantas SIM plan FAQs

In this article we'll go through commonly asked questions about the Qantas SIM plans.

For more information about Qantas SIM plans, please visit qantas.com.au/optus.

Update: Qantas Frequent Flyer members will no longer be able to sign up to a Qantas SIM plan and earn Qantas Points. Existing customers who signed up on or before 11 April 2024 will continue to earn Qantas Points for a period of 12 months from 12 April 2024.

These plans are only available to Qantas Frequent Flyer members who add a new eligible Optus service on before 12 April 2024. From 12 April 2024, you are no longer able to sign up to a Qantas SIM plan.

Customers who signed up to a Qantas SIM plan by Optus on or before 11 April 2024 and provided their Qantas Frequent Flyer point membership details will earn the bonus Qantas Points corresponding to their plan and Qantas Points per $1 spent on their monthly plan for a period of 12 months from 12 April 2024.

Allocation of ongoing earn points and bonus points will be applied in the 12-month period following 12 April 2024. Eligible customers on Qantas SIM plans will receive points in four instalments over the next 12 months.

Great news - with our Endless Data feature, once you reach your data allowance, your service will continue to use data at a maximum speed of up to 1.5Mbps. 1.5Mbps is suitable for general internet browsing and music streaming, however some activities such as video streaming may see increased buffering and loading times. Usage while slowed is unmetered. Applies to data usage in Australia only.

We'll also send you usage alerts at 50%, 85% and 100% of your data limit - and you can always see how your usage is travelling in My Optus app.

Data Add-ons and Unlimited Data Day are available for these plans and can be added at an additional cost in My Optus app and My Account.

If you're on the $59 or $79 plan you can access the Optus 5G network at no additional cost, but a compatible device is required. The Optus 5G mobile network is available in selected areas of Australia (excluding NT). Check out the Optus 5G mobile coverage map for the latest updates on our 5G network rollout.

Yes. International roaming is part of the $79 plan, which includes 5GB data and standard national talk & text in a Zone 1 destination or to Australia. Customers on all plans can purchase international roaming add-ons in My Optus App. For select destinations and more information, see International Roaming Add-ons.

Customers can purchase a once-off or recurring international talk and text add-ons in My Optus app. For select destinations and more information, see International Call Rates.
