Power Supply Unit backup battery: Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
If you’re an nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) customer, you may have been supplied with a Power Supply Unit with a battery backup.
The battery backup supplies emergency power to the nbn Connection Box in the event of an extended power outage. However, the Optus-supplied modem used for your service requires mains power to operate. The battery backup will not supply any power to the modem.
An alarm sound and/or a red light next to Replace Battery on the nbn Connection Box indicates the Power Supply Unit backup battery must either be removed or replaced. Given the Optus-supplied modem requires mains power, the backup battery is not essential and removing it is the simplest option.
If you want to replace the battery and are within your 24 month warranty period, Technical Support can assist. If you are out of warranty, then you will need to buy a replacement battery yourself. More information is available at nbnco.com.au/battery.
Please note that Optus no longer supplies battery backup with nbn FTTP orders.
