Upcoming Mobile Plan Changes

Thank you for choosing Optus. We’re committed to continually improving our network and services for our customer’s needs as technology evolves.

What’s changing?

From 27 July 2026, we’ll be moving services on older Postpaid, Mobile Broadband, and/or connected device plans to our current Optus Choice or Optus Choice Data plans. If your service is being moved, we won’t require anything from you as this will be an automated procedure. The process of moving customers to the newer plans may take a few weeks to complete, but no disruption to your service/s should occur unless we specifically inform you of this.

As a result of these changes, you may see a price increase to your plan and/or changes to your plan’s inclusions. Depending on the older plan you are moving from, some customers will receive a discount and almost all will receive additional data either from the new plan itself or as an ongoing add-on. This will have been explained via our direct communication sent to you.

Your new plan(s) will have the following features:

  • 5G access: You have access to Optus’ expanding 5G network in more locations. 5G available in selected areas, with a compatible device. Check your available coverage.
  • No Excess Data charges: No surprise data charges, and you can keep using your service even if you reach your data limit (your speed will just be slowed).
  • No lock-in contracts: You have the flexibility to change your plan once a month.
  • 24/7 Customer Support: Manage your services and access 24/7 messaging support through My Optus app.

Customer Support

If you’re looking for support around what your options are, or have any questions you wish to ask us, please reach out by messaging us 24/7 in My Optus app or calling us on 133 937. For business inquiries, please call 133 343 or contact your Account Manager.

We understand that life can throw unexpected things your way, so if you’re experiencing financial hardship, please visit our Payment Assistance page for information on how we can assist you through this.

We also recognise that some customers may be facing a sensitive or vulnerable situation, such as the loss of a loved one, health issues, or domestic violence that can inhibit your ability to process payments. If you are in a situation like this, Optus provides an Optus Specialist Care team who are dedicated to keep you connected, maintain your privacy and support you in any way they can.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know when the new plan is active?

We will begin moving customers from 27 July 2026. It may take a few weeks to complete the migration of all impacted customers. Once you've been moved to the new plans(s), you'll be able to review your new plan(s) details in My Optus app or through My Account, with changes also reflected on your next bill.

My plan is still in contract, isn’t it?

The plan itself is a month-to-month contract, which allows the flexibility for it to be changed with no additional cost to you. However, you may also have 12/24/36 month device repayments with us for your handset or other device, which isn't changing.

I had a discount attached to my plan. Will I lose this?

Except for the Business Builder Discount, all existing discount amounts will carry over and continue to be provided until withdrawn. If you choose to change your plan after you have been moved to the new plan, you may lose existing discounts.

If you a currently receiving a Business Builder Discount on your plan(s), this discount will not carry over to your new plan(s).

What about my inclusions and add-ons? Will they be taken away?

The following inclusions and add-ons will not be carried over to new plans:

  • International roaming inclusions. If you currently have international roaming included in your current plan, this will no longer be included in your new plan. You can explore the roaming options available on your new plan here.
  • Bonus data and paid add-ons. If you have bonus data on your current plan, this will not carry over to your new plan except for the 100GB Bonus Data (Nov 23) add-on. In addition, if you have purchased additional add-ons (such as paid international talk & text or paid bonus data), these will also not carry over to your new plan unless specified in the communication we sent to you. However, your new plan will include the same or more data allowance than your current plan. If you would like to re-purchase additional add-ons, you can view the add-on options available on your new plan via the ‘Service’ tab in My Optus app. The options and their price may be different from what you have with your current plan.
  • Leasing. Leasing plans are no longer available for sale. If you are on a plan that currently allows for leasing devices from Optus, you will be moved to one of our newest mobile plans which do not allow you to lease a device from Optus.
  • Other inclusions and add-ons. If your current plan includes Trade Up, data free Music/TV Streaming, Optus Sport and/or an Apple Music Subscription, these are no longer available and will not be included in your new plan.
I pay through direct debit. Will this be automatically updated?

Yes, if you pay via direct debit, the amount will automatically updated in the next pay cycle after the move has completed. You can view and manage your direct debit payments in My Optus app or through My Account.

I was notified that International Calling will be added to my new plan and/or my old plan had 32 Destinations to call to. Which countries do these include?

This new add-on will have unlimited talk and text to countries that are categorised as Group 1, which include:

Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA, Vietnam.

Your old plan(s) may have included texts & calls to 32 destinations. If so, you will be able to make unlimited standard texts & calls to more destinations than you can under your current plan(s), but the following destinations will no longer be included in the destinations you can call and text:

Austria, Bangladesh, Chile, Croatia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey.

What happens if I want to cancel my plan?

You will not be charged a cancellation fee for the plan. However, if you have device payments attached to the plan that are still ongoing, we will require you to pay out the remaining before the plan is cancelled.

Can I change my mobile plan once I have been moved?

You are free to change your plan to an eligible in-market plan. If you decide to change your plan, any discounts or promotions that you are receiving may no longer apply.

I received communication that my $0 Optus Plan is going to be cancelled?

The $0 Optus Plan is being retired along with a lot of our older plans. If you haven’t used your $0 Optus Plan service(s) in the past six months, we will be cancelling these service(s) from 24 August 2026 rather than moving you to a new plan.

If you would like to keep the mobile number associated with your $0 Optus Plan service, you can do this by contacting us before 20 August 2026 and switching to an in-market Optus Choice / Choice Plus or Prepaid plan.
