What is Optus 5G+?

Optus 5G+ is the next evolution of 5G, which runs on the latest 5G infrastructure completely independent of 4G.

What is the difference between standard Optus 5G and Optus 5G+?

Optus 5G+ runs on the standalone 5G network, and uses 5G technology at every link along the network. Optus 5G+ runs on an independent 900mhz layer of spectrum which is completely independent of existing 5G bands.

Standard Optus 5G (which represents the majority of usage to date) leverages a mix of 4G and 5G network infrastructure to deliver 5G network capabilities.

Am I eligible for Optus 5G+?

For Optus mobile customers to connect to the Optus 5G+ network, you need to have:

A compatible handset with 5G standalone capability (full eligibility list below)
A SIM card from 2021 or newer (or use eSIM)
An eligible plan with Optus 5G+ enabled (full eligibility list below)

5G+ is also only available if you are in an Optus 5G+ coverage area. You can check our network coverage maps to see if you are in an Optus 5G+ coverage area.

What mobile devices are Optus 5G+ eligible?

The specific mobile handsets compatible with Optus 5G+ are:

iPhone 14/15/16/17 series
Samsung Galaxy S26 series
Samsung Galaxy S25 series
Samsung Galaxy S23 & 24 series (including FE)
Samsung Galaxy S 21 & 22 series (excluding FE)
Samsung Galaxy Fold 4/5/6/7 series

Note: If you've been notified by us that your service is being moved from an older plan to one of the plans listed below, 5G+ may not be enabled automatically during the migration. If you fulfil the above requirements and connect to an Optus 5G+ enabled site, you will be able to connect to the Optus 5G+ network.

For Optus 5G Home Internet customers to connect to the Optus 5G+ network, you need to have an eligible 5G Fixed Wireless Access plan with an Ultra WiFi 5G Modem purchased after 26 August 2024 (full eligibility list below).

Is Optus 5G+ available on my 5G home internet connection?

Optus 5G+ is available on specific 5G Fixed Wireless Access plans with a compatible modem. The current list of eligible 5G Fixed Wireless Access plans enabled with Optus 5G+ are:

Customers who purchased these plans with an Ultra WiFi 5G Modem after 26 August 2024 can access Optus 5G+.

Will I be able to see if I have Optus 5G+ on my phone? There is no specific indicator for Optus 5G+ that will be shown on your device as it will only display the radio access type. When you are connected to Optus 5G+ or standard 5G, since the radio access is the same, there is no way for your device to differentiate them and it will say 5G in both cases.

Will Optus 5G+ work when I am using international roaming overseas on my mobile? Optus 5G+ is not available overseas, however different providers may provide access to their standalone network technology when roaming.

Will having my handset connected to Optus 5G+ impact my connected device (e.g. smart watch)? No, there is no impact to your smartwatch by having Optus 5G+ on your phone.

What happens if I change my Optus 5G+ eligible handset to an ineligible handset? If you change your device to one that is not compatible with Optus 5G+, you won't be able to connect to the Optus 5G+ network, but may still connect to the standard 5G network if your new device is 5G capable.

Does Optus 5G+ work with eSIM? Yes, eSIM is considered a compatible SIM for the purposes of enabling Optus 5G+.

Is Optus 5G+ available on my tablet, iPad or portable modem device? No, Optus 5G+ is not available on tablets, iPads or portable modems, or our Connected Devices (data and watch) plans.

Is Optus 5G+ available on Optus prepaid plans and devices? No, Optus 5G+ is not currently available on Optus prepaid plans and devices.

Is Optus 5G+ available on my Amaysim plan? No, Optus 5G+ is not currently available on an Amaysim plan.

How can I check if I am in an Optus 5G+ location? You can check the Optus coverage maps to see if you are in an Optus 5G+ coverage area.
