Safety@Optus for Suppliers

    Managing risk

Optus uses the international standard for Risk Management, ISO-31000 as its primary guide to managing WHS risk. It is used in conjunction with the risk management Code of Practice advised by Safe Work Australia How to manage work health and safety risks.

However, these are not the sole risk management tools employed by Optus. The Optus risk management framework is comprehensive and varied, and we anticipate our suppliers to demonstrate the robust approach in their practices.

Human safety is the foremost priority, yet occasionally WHS risks may intersect with business risks, potentially affecting the Optus brand and its commercial interests. Optus considers all aspects of risk when evaluating Suppliers, whether they provide goods or services.

To understand the how Optus applies the principles of risk management to its Supplier click on Risk Approach below.

Below is the risk management matrix that defines best practice workplace risk management

Long description: This image shows a circular risk management process. At the center is management commitment, indicating leadership support underpins all activities. Surrounding this are four steps arranged in a continuous cycle: identify hazards, assess risks, control risks, and review control measures. The process flows clockwise, showing that risk management is ongoing rather than one‑off. An outer ring labeled consultation repeats around the circle, emphasizing that consultation occurs throughout every stage of the process.
