Aurora Digital
As Australia’s leading satellite provider, we’re striving to continuously create innovative broadcast solutions for our customers. And, in turn, their customers.
One of these innovations is Aurora Digital – a direct-to-home satellite broadcasting service to all Australians. This service allows you to reach hundreds of thousands of satellite receivers, in all areas of Australia, simultaneously with a single transmission. This is particularly useful for digital television and radio content.
The Optus Aurora Digital platform supports three satellite broadcast products:
- RemoteCast: Free-to-air television and radio services provided to rural and remote areas of Australia. These are also known as “Viewer Access Satellite Television”, or VAST
- MultiCast: NarrowCast television services for closed (eg. content for pubs and clubs, cinemas) or open viewer groups. Open content is available to anyone with an Aurora Digital set-top box
- AudioCast: NarrowCast radio services for closed or open groups. There are around 100 audio-only channels on the Aurora Digital platform
All Aurora Digital services have a state-of-the-art conditional access system applied, using a combination of smart cards and digital encryption to help protect content from unauthorised access. Direct-to-home reception is easy to install and manage – all a user needs is a small satellite dish and an Aurora Digital (or VAST) set-top box.
The set-top box receives the signal from the satellite dish on the roof of the user’s home, then decodes the selected television or radio channel. Aurora Digital services can be integrated with other Optus national and international satellite services providing network design flexibility.
