Optus is Australia’s most experienced satellite owner and operator, with five satellites currently in orbit with available services across Australia, New Zealand and to McMurdo Sound in the Antarctic.
Our main satellite operations centre is located in Belrose (NSW) with other operations in Lockridge (WA); Hume (ACT); and Regency Park (SA). From these stations, we conduct continuous satellite network monitoring, video, voice and data delivery, support and troubleshooting across a range of industries.

Optus D3
The D3 satellite was launched from French Guiana, South America in 2009. It operates over Australia in the BSS band to deliver direct-to-home services across Australia. It also provides FSS band backup capacity to New Zealand.
In the future, Optus plans to be the first commercial geostationary operator to utilise SpaceLogistics’ mission robotic vehicle (MRV) and mission extension pod (MEP) to increase the life of the D3 Satellite into the 2030s.
Sent into orbit in 2006. Functionally identical to the Optus D2, it comprises of a Ku Band repeater designed to operate in the Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) band to Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
The Optus C1 has twenty-four commercial Ku-band transponders operating in beams covering Australia, New Zealand, the nearby offshore islands, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii and South East Asia.
