Helping Aussie teens say yes to their dreams

In the lead up to the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023TM, Optus announced it was giving young Aussies a shot at making their dreams come true with 64 $3,000 Optus Inspiration Grants – one grant for each of the 64 matches of the tournament broadcast on Optus Sport.
The response from teens across the country was overwhelming. More than 13,000 ambitious 13–19-year-olds applied, from those aspiring to careers as diverse as screenwriting to STEM, to teens looking to help their local communities and disability networks.
The program also saw a huge response from the sporting community with volleyball, cricket, gymnastics, swimming and football dreams across capital cities and regional areas. Applications included aspiring Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions who seek support to represent Australia on the global stage.
Matt Williams said, “We were deeply inspired by the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM and are so proud of the Matildas players who competed. These grants are our way of amplifying that inspiration and ensuring its lasting impact.
"We've been able to create a groundswell of enthusiasm and were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of applications. This program seeks to empower the Australian teenagers who embody the spirit of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™ through their dreams and passions."
Some of our 64 recipients got an extra special treat when they received a surprise video call from some of our Optus Ambassadors to let them know the exciting news that they had been successful. Check out the video below to see the winners' reactions.
Matildas Vice-Captain and Optus Ambassador, Steph Catley said, "I believe that with hard work, dedication, and a passion for what you do, anything is possible. The Optus Inspiration Grants Program provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact within their community. I'm excited to see the incredible journeys and witness the impact on the next generation that will be fuelled by these grants."
