The best PlayStation 5 accessories

Can you believe it? Christmas is almost here again. Every year it seems as if the holiday season comes out of nowhere and suddenly, we find ourselves racing to the shops to quickly finish our shopping lists before it’s too late.

Sometimes when we’re hastily shopping, we walk around aimlessly not knowing what to purchase – especially when the person receiving the gift has specific tastes. As any gamer will know (or even as anyone who knows a gamer will know) – we’re meticulous with our consoles and love an accessory to better our gaming experiences.

If you find yourself having to purchase a gift for a gamer who’s lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5, check out the latest must- haves accessories and become this year’s best gift giver.

WD_Black P50 2TB SSD Game Drive

One of the worst feelings any gamer will experience is when we run out of storage and inevitably find ourselves having to re-download games. That loading times can be insufferable particularly when you’re all ready to go. Having an external SSD will remove the hassle of storage and extend your library with no issues.

The WD_Black P50 2TB Game Drive is arguably the most popular hard drive for PlayStation 5 players as it has 2TB of additional storage, speeds up to 2000MB/s* to help decrease loading times and is even equipped with a single USB connection for easy handling and portability.

PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller

The standard controller is a great device in itself and does everything you need with ease and comfort. In saying that though, having a DualSense wireless controller immediately upgrades the gaming experience.

With haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and motion sensors, players will be able to feel the movements of the game in the palm of their hands for a more immersive experience.

While you’ll get a DualSense controller with your PlayStation 5, picking up an extra controller for multiplayer games takes playing with your friends and family to a whole new level.

Backbone PS5

PlayStation Remote Play is a feature that allows you to play PS5 games on your mobile handset or tablet. Initially my first reaction was “Why would anyone want to play high graphic games on a such a small screen without a controller?” – a sentiment widely shared within the gaming community.

However, the conversation changed as soon as the Backbone PS5 hit the market. The Backbone is an attachment for you iPhone and turns your mobile into a gaming device similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Essentially your mobile becomes the screen, the backbone attachments become your controllers and you can now play on the go. The Backbone PS5 is also compatible for some mobile app games and also enables streaming. This gift idea is for iPhone users only – an Android version is expected to be released soon.

ASUS RT- AX82U AX-5400 Dual Band WiFi Router

Once you experience the luxury of playing off a gaming modem, then there’s no going back.  With the ASUS RT- AX82U AX-5400 Dual Band WiFi Router, players will be able to enjoy the smoothest WiFi connections on ultrafast speeds (up to 5400 Mbps) for a lag-free and low latency gaming session.

This gaming router automatically prioritises any wired device connected and best of all – no configuration is needed. Simply connect your PlayStation to the dedicated LAN port and enjoy the stable connection to never experience a delay again.

On top of being a worthwhile investment, the router also has a programmable lighting display with an almost alien technology aesthetic - which let’s face it, is incredibly badass. You’ve got incredible speeds, connection security and the coolest aesthetic.

Internet essentials

You could have a brand-new PlayStation 5 and all of the best accessories in the world but it would all be meaningless without a stable internet connection. If someone in your house enjoys playing games, then perhaps we would recommend upgrading your internet nbn plan with the Speed Pack Home Ultrafast.

The Home Ultrafast is ideal for 4K and 8K concurrent streaming, downloading or uploading large files and online gaming. With Optus’s nbn plans as well, you will be able to access Game Path should someone in your house also be interested in PC gaming.

Generally speaking, a Game Path add on will reduce your lag by 30 per cent, reduce jitter by 71 per cent and will help improve overall stability and smoothness of your game by making sure your gaming traffic is always on the most optimal path to the server.

Happy Holidays and Happy Gaming!
