Supercars champion Chaz Mostert achieved a milestone over the weekend at the Townsville 500, with the No. 1 Mobil 1 Optus Racing Toyota GR Supra driver achieving 200 races with Walkinshaw TWG racing.
It’s something that we’re hugely proud of, with Chaz being an absolute master behind the wheel and Optus being a major sponsor of Walkinshaw TWG racing. We decided to take the moment and sit down with Chaz to talk about his 200 races with the Team, the challenges he has faced, and his most proud accomplishments.

Congratulations on the 200th race with Walkinshaw TWG Racing Chaz. How are you feeling about the milestone?
I’ve been celebrating a few milestones recently, so it must mean I’m getting old! In all honesty, celebrating 200 races with the Walkinshaw TWG Racing team is really special. It only feels like I joined the team yesterday, time does fly by when you’re having fun. I’ve spent over half my Supercars career with the Team and I’m so lucky to have such an incredible bunch of guys and girls to go racing with.
Let’s chat some career highlights. What do you reckon has been the highpoint of your time with Walkinshaw TWG Racing, and could you reflect on it a bit? I have a feeling I know what you’re going to say.
My highlight with the Team definitely has to be the 2021 Bathurst 1000 win with my good mate, Lee Holdsworth. We rolled out really strong early in the weekend, and that gave us a heap of confidence in the car for the rest of it. Then, being able to put the car on pole and set the fastest-ever lap around Bathurst in a Supercar made it even more special.
We fought all the way to the finish. After suffering a tyre delamination during the race, we thought our day was over, but we kept pushing and got the job done.

How about that moment in 2025, where your car broke down at The Chase at Bathurst, and you had a beer with a fan? It’s got to be one of the most iconic Supercars moments of the last several years.
Well, there’s nothing more Aussie than having a beer with the fans after my first DNF at Bathurst. I’ve been mates with Robbo for years, and I just wanted to hang out with my mates to take my mind off it. The team were awesome letting me jump out of the car to have a beer, although I don’t think they quite believed me when I asked for their permission!
I’ll definitely be paying a visit to Robbo before the weekend, but I don’t plan on visiting him again during the race.
You’ve been through a lot in the Supercars, having entered the grid in 2013 and joined Walkinshaw TWG Racing in 2020 – what do you reckon has been the biggest challenge of your career so far?
The biggest challenge of my career was probably moving to Walkinshaw after spending nearly a decade at Tickford. Learning a new car, adapting to new processes, and understanding how a new team operated was a real challenge. But it helped me grow, both as a person and as a race car driver.

If you were to look back at one key moment in your time with Walkinshaw TWG Racing as the best example of your skill on the track, and I know there’s many, what would it be? Any key on-track battles or best laps you’ve set?
Honestly, the entire finals series last year would have to be it. It was a period where the team and I just clicked. We prepared for the finals series all year, and it was incredibly rewarding to see all of the hard work pay off because every single person in the Team executed their roles perfectly.
We knew exactly what we needed to achieve on track, and we did it. It still feels very surreal, and I still can’t quite believe I am a Supercars Champion.
You’re the reigning champion of Supercars right now Chaz – have you got any words of wisdom for anybody looking up to you and wanting to be where you are?
Give it a go! Say yes to every opportunity you’re offered because you never know what you’ll learn, who you’ll meet or where it might lead. Motorsport can be really tough, but it is really rewarding too. I still can’t quite believe I get call myself a Supercars driver, even after 13 years in the sport.
I’m going to hand this one to you Chaz. Any final words on the big 200?
Just a massive thank you to every single person who helped me throughout my journey, from my family and friends, to my incredible Team, our amazing group of partners, and most importantly, the fans. I wouldn’t be able to do what I love with the people I love without all of your support, so thank you!
