As an Optus Supplier of trades and construction work. The Supplier must have an emergency plan that has been specifically developed for the particular workplace and its specific hazards that covers a range of potential incidents.
At times, the Supplier may need to develop a task-specific emergency plan that is separate from the site's general emergency response plan. These task-specific plans are designed for activities including, but not limited to,
- Working with mobile powered plant - involves various risks such as rollovers, falling objects, and mechanical failures.
- Working at heights - rescue plan is essential for an adequate emegency response on rooftops, pole tops, towers, cranes, buckets, and similar elevated workspaces.
- A confined space - rescue plan involves managing atmospheric conditions, ensuring retrieval space, and other critical factors.
- Remote and isolated work - plan must have contingencies in place for no mobile services, regular check ins etc
Workers at the construction site are required to be informed, trained, and instructed on how to implement the emergency plan.
It is the responsibility of the Supplier to ensure a reliable and effective means of communication between work areas to facilitate and guarantee the efficient evacuation of hazardous zones and the appropriate response to an emergency
The emergency procedures in the emergency plan must clearly explain how to respond in various types of emergencies including how to evacuate people from the workplace in a controlled manner.
Contact numbers for emergency services should be prominently displayed. A register of persons who are at the construction workplace on a particular day should be kept so in the case of any emergency everyone can be accounted for.
