Frequently Asked Questions

What is Optus Flex Plus?

Optus Flex Plus is our Prepaid rate plan. It provides more flexibility and value than ever. With offers like Unlimited Data Weekends on selected recharge options when you stay connected with Auto Recharge, as well as more options to call and text loved ones overseas, it's the perfect time to connect.

If you don’t use all of your data, don’t worry! If you don't use it, you won't lose it. Recharge before expiry or turn on Auto Recharge to rollover up to 200GB. Plus, enjoy the freedom to tweak and manage your plan and get access to other great value Add Ons.

What do I get with my Prepaid SIM Plan?

We have a range of great value Prepaid recharge options, each with different inclusions to suit the way you connect.  All of our Flex Plus recharge options provide unlimited standard national calls and SMS, 50 standard international SMS, and 200GB rollover when you recharge before expiry and flexible plan management through the My Optus app, all for use within Australia.

You’ll also get standard international calling minutes to selected destinations included on all recharge options except $15. To get access to unlimited weekend data when you Auto Recharge, take a look at our $40, $44, $50, $54, and $64 recharge options (offer available until withdrawn).

I purchased a SIM pack before the pricing update (excl. $2 SIM). Will I pay the new (higher) price when I recharge?

Your activation recharge will reflect the price you paid for your SIM. If the SIM is activated prior to 29 December 2026, recharges made within 90 days of activation via optus.com.au/recharge, the My Optus App or AutoRecharge, will have a discount applied, so that you pay the same amount as the face value of your SIM pack. After this period, the new (standard) price will apply.

How can I recharge my Optus Flex Plus service?

You can recharge your service the following ways:

  • The My Optus app
  • optus.com.au/recharge
  • calling 555 (even with $0 balance) from your mobile service
  • Sending "Menu" to 9999, when you have a stored card (even with $0 balance)
  • in-person at our Optus stores or participating partner retail stores
  • By activating Auto Recharge.
How can I check my Prepaid balance and data usage?

You can check your Prepaid credit, balance, expiry date and data usage in any of the following channels:

  • Calling 555
  • SMS "BAL" to 9999
  • My Optus App
How can I access Unlimited Weekend Data?

Unlimited Data Weekends is available on new and existing services on Optus Flex Plus $40, $44, $50, $54, and $64 recharge options. All that new customers need to do is turn on Auto Recharge during service activation. Existing customers can turn on Auto Recharge for their service in the My Optus App to get access from the first eligible Auto Recharge. If activation or Auto Recharge occurs on the weekend, you won't get access to the offer until the following weekend day. Fair Go Policy applies, only available on the Optus 4G and 5G Standard (non-standalone) network.

Can I buy an Unlimited Data Day during an Unlimited Data Weekend?

Yes, you can still buy an Unlimited Data Day at any time, however there is no benefit in doing so. It's still a great option on weekdays, or if you're not eligible for Unlimited Data Weekends (for example, if your current recharge option is not eligible, or you don’t have Auto Recharge enabled). We don't recommend that you buy an Unlimited Data Day on the weekend if you're eligible for Unlimited Data weekends. To learn more about Unlimited Data Days and other Add Ons for Flex Plus, please see optus.com.au/prepaid/plans/add-ons.

Can I access an Unlimited Data Weekend if my Auto Recharge occurs on a weekend?

An eligible Auto Recharge must have been processed by 11.59pm on Friday (local time) to receive access to unlimited data for the weekend that follows. If your first eligible Auto Recharge is applied on the Saturday you will get unlimited data on the following Sunday only. If your Auto Recharge occurs on a Sunday, you will not gain access to Unlimited Data Weekends until the following weekend.

If you keep an eligible Auto Recharge turned on, unlimited data will continuously be applied to your service on the weekend (12.01am Sat to 11.59pm Sun).

What is AutoRecharge?

Auto Recharge is a simple solution for automatically recharging your service on a regular cycle, or when your service runs low on data. Set and forget with Auto Recharge.

How can I set up my Auto Recharge?
You'll need to save a supported credit/debit card to your account to set up Auto Recharge.

  • You can set up Auto Recharge when you activate your service via the My Optus App, or online. For the $40 and $50 recharge options, this will be required to activate your service.
  • If Auto Recharge is not set up at the time of activation, you can set this up at any time via the My Optus app.
  • You can also turn on Auto Recharge by phone (call 555) or SMS (Text ‘Menu' to 9999) if you have a saved payment method.
  • Need help? We can assist you to set up, just give us a call on 133 937 or visit your local 'yes' Optus store. You'll need access to the internet and your own device to add a payment method to your account.

Can I cancel my Auto Recharge at any time?
Yes, you can cancel your Auto Recharge instance at any time, and once your current recharge expires you will no longer be charged. Cancelling your Auto Recharge instance also means you will no longer be able to use data, make calls or send texts using your service when your current recharge expires, unless you recharge manually.

If you activate a service on a $40 or $50 recharge option, and the Auto Recharge instance is cancelled, you will need to choose from other available recharge options when your current recharge expires. The $40 and $50 recharge options will no longer be available.

Do I get a bonus for activating Auto Recharge?
Yes, customers who activate their Auto Recharge on the $40, $44, $50, $54, and $64 price points will get access to Unlimited Data Weekends for any recharges processed via Auto Recharge. Additionally, customers can get a $4 discount with Auto Recharge on the $44, $54, and $64 recharge options. Services with Auto Recharge enabled will also receive bonus data on the $15, $200 and $395 plans. Offer available until withdrawn.

Can I access the 5G network on Optus Flex Plus?

Yes, all Optus Flex Plus recharge options provide access to the 4G and 5G Standard network. Access to the 5G network is only available via non-standalone. Access to the 5G+ (standalone) network is not available on Flex Plus. You'll need a 5G compatible device to access 5G, which is only available in selected areas (exc. NT) - for coverage details see optus.com.au/coverage.

What is an eSIM and what are the benefits?

An eSIM is an embedded module within compatible devices, into which you can download an eSIM profile from Optus and connect without the need for a physical SIM card.

What are the advantages of eSIM?
This technology is embedded directly into your device, offering several advantages.

  • Connect to Optus faster: Don't wait for fiddly, physical SIM cards to arrive. eSIM technology is already built into compatible devices, for quicker, simpler connection to our best mobile network ever.
  • Easier digital setup: With an eSIM you can connect with Optus Prepaid easily through My Optus App, simply by downloading your digital eSIM. You'll need a stable internet connection (via WiFi or hotspot from another device) to download the app.
  • Two numbers. One phone: Enjoy the flexibility of having two numbers on the same phone – one for work and one for personal use - simply by using both an eSIM and a physical SIM*.
  • More environmentally friendly: Because there's less reliance on plastic SIM cards, there's also less manufacturing and less packaging. That all means a lower impact on the environment.

*In some 5G capable phones, you won’t be able to access the Optus 5G network if you have an eSIM and a physical SIM active at the same time. Refer to the device’s manufacturer specifications for further information.

Delivery Information

We offer free delivery for SIM and device purchases made online. We aim to deliver within:

  • Metro areas: Within 2 business days.
  • Non-metro areas: Within 5 business days.
Can I use Optus Prepaid in any mobile device?

We've switched off our 3G network, which means 3G services are no longer available on the Optus network. If your device relies on 3G for voice or data use, it cannot be used on the Optus network. This includes functionality such as:

  • Making calls
  • Sending or receiving SMS
  • Making emergency calls to Triple Zero (000)
  • Using data or connecting to the internet

If your device is impacted you will need to obtain a device that is compatible with the Optus 4G/5G Standard (non-standalone) network to stay connected and continue to use your SIM. The easiest way to check if your device is compatible is by referring to the device specifications in the user manual, or by referring to the manufacturer's website.
Here's what you need to check to confirm if your device is compatible:

  • Devices should be compatible with the 700 MHz 4G band (LTE Band 28)
  • For mobile phones, devices must support 4G VoLTE (which enables voice calls to be made over a 4G network) - including VoLTE emergency calling.
  • For mobile phones, be configured to facilitate calls to emergency services on all mobile networks within Australia.

If your device does not support one or more of the above, your device will either not be able to connect to the Optus network at all, or may experience reduced coverage.
Important - In addition to 3G devices, some recent 4G devices may also be impacted, including models that may have been purchased or imported from retailers outside of Australia, due to lacking the required configuration to facilitate emergency calling within Australia.
