Home Phone FAQs

Can I transfer my existing phone number to Optus?

Yes, in most cases, as long as you are staying in the same local area. Transferring your number can take up to 10 business days. Just make sure you don't cancel your service with your current provider until the transfer is complete.

Will Optus supply me with telephone handsets?

No, Optus no longer supplies new telephone handsets. Any working handsets you already have should work with your new Optus service, provided they meet Australian standards.

How do I connect a telephone using my nbn® internet?

nbn® home phone relies on your internet connection to make and receive voice calls. You'll need to plug your telephone handset directly into your modem. If you have an Optus modem, it will already be set-up for use with your telephone service once you’ve plugged in your handset.

What happens to my home phone service if there’s an nbn® outage?

As nbn home phone relies on your internet connection, if the nbn is off due to an outage, then you won't be able to make or receive calls, including to emergency services.

How long will it take to get my home phone connected?

You'll receive an SMS and a letter confirming your connection date 3 to 5 business days after placing your connection request.

If unexpected circumstances lead to a change in the confirmed connection date, we will make every effort to let you know and arrange a new date.
