Enabling Voice over LTE (VoLTE)

To get the best user experience on your mobile you need to ensure the Voice over LTE (VoLTE) setting is enabled on your mobile device.

VoLTE gives mobile devices access to more bandwidth, better connectivity, higher quality audio and faster connection. It works by connecting to 4G technology as opposed to 3G when a call connection is made.

What this means for you and your mobile device is:

  • Faster call connections
  • Better battery life
  • Better network experience and in more places
  • Better in-building coverage

To enable the VoLTE function on your mobile device please refer to the following instructional videos:

Enabling Wi-Fi Calling

Your smart phone can access WiFi for data, email and internet, and you can also make a receive phone calls over WiFi too.

WiFi Calling is a useful coverage option for Optus mobile users in locations where mobile coverage is limited or not available, or you have access to a reliable WiFi network where you frequent often such as your home or workplace

  • Home: is usually automatically available as soon as you connect your phone to your WiFi, and your phones setting is ‘on’.
  • Workplaces: Optus can support your ICT professional to enable your corporate WLAN to support WiFi Calling.

WiFi Calling is a secure and valid call from your phone number via Optus and provides normal access to services like voicemail and others. It is an additional function and extension of the use of the 4G LTE network for voice calls, also known as Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

Check if your VoLTE setting is active on your phone by following the instructions above under Enabling Voice over LTE (VoLTE)
