Upscale collaboration to descale complexity

Setting up the conditions for innovation in any team can be a challenge, but it’s a whole new mindset when we bring multiple teams together.

Collective collaboration is a remedy to complex challenges. Cut-through is realised by harnessing diverse perspectives, experiences and skills. Leaders carry the responsibility to create the right dynamics and set the conditions for constructive discussions, collaboration, and ultimately innovative solutions that will get results and create value for our customers.

The latest State of the Global Workplace report by Gallup shows that engagement in the workplace is imperative: how we feel at work and about what we do at work has 3.8 times more influence on employee stress than work location - a hot topic that is dominating the headlines anywhere you look. Engaged employees exhibit a growth mindset, they are energised and resilient to setbacks – with that comes a far greater likelihood of being able to effectively collaborate and achieve successful outcomes.

Undoubtedly, one vital role that leaders play is to facilitate collaborative relationships and build time and space for people to contribute as both individuals and a collective.

Collective enablement will start from the individual

At Optus, we act as collaborators and service providers. While all customers avail themselves of our services, when we engage in collaboration, it involves creating new pathways for customers to deliver performance, growth and scale.

We design for our teams to work together for the success of our customers. We understand that the companies we collaborate with can have their own unique complexities, priorities and goals, and we want to help them get there with Optus.

Take our latest collaboration with CouriersPlease, which is in the midst of a technology transformation built on Optus solutions that will aid their logistics and enable scalable growth in both the short term and long term. The strategic five-year partnership with CouriersPlease has already resulted in a wide range of scalable solutions across their fleet, their network infrastructure, and their support capabilities, and we still have more to explore.

Teams of any size, configuration, and tenure of partnership can achieve amazing results when they have the purpose, direction, encouragement, and sponsorship to go forward.

Collaborative success starts with encouragement and the space to begin.

At Optus, we design for inter-team "interlocks". When multiple teams need to work together to achieve customer outcomes, our learning is that teams need to understand each other’s priorities, capacity and capability to set up a successful collaboration.

Our success is predicated on the success of our valued customers. That’s why every meeting, every shared thought and discussion, will contribute to the success of whom we work with.

Collaboration can be challenging. Teams and individuals have their own opinions, viewpoints, working styles, and mindsets. Leaders need to be empathetic in their approach to collaborative efforts, working to bring out the best in every person, in every team, and in every conversation. One place to start is with common ground. With a shared goal of customer success, for example, every team member can begin to understand the importance and value of collaboration.

It’s things like this - collaboration, common ground, empathy, teamwork - that create the space for innovation at the heart of any complexity.  And that is what drives us at Optus, every single day.
