Optus and Cisco expand partnership to offer strengthened network security services

In a significant move towards bolstering network security for businesses, Optus and Cisco have announced a multi-year partnership aimed at offering enhanced protection for enterprise and business customers. This collaboration is set to address the complexities associated with a global increase in cyber attacks, skill shortages, stringent regulatory environments and hybrid workforces, ensuring robust security across office-based and remote working environments.

The rise of hybrid work models is evident. 

Now 37% of Australians regularly work remotely. This shift has led to a growing reliance on SaaS public and on-demand network services, which, while convenient, also increase exposure to potential security risks across devices and software. In this context, the Optus and Cisco partnership is a timely response to these evolving needs, promising to deliver a comprehensive suite of network security services.

At the core of this initiative is the Optus Secure Managed Network Services portfolio, powered by Cisco’s cutting-edge technology. This includes the significant upgrade of Optus’ Secure Network Operation Centre, complemented by a suite of new products from Cisco. These enhancements are designed to provide superior network security for both office-based customers and those operating in hybrid environments.

The partnership will see increased investment in Optus’ Integrated Network Operation Centre and Security Operation Centre. This expansion will facilitate secure-by-design networks, reducing complexity through effective, innovative managed services tailored to meet the needs of modern hybrid workforces. The collaboration aims to offer comprehensive network observability and security incident visibility, accelerating the identification and resolution of underlying issues.

The newly launched platform includes Cisco-Powered Secure Firewall and Managed Secure Service Edge (SSE) services, with additional capabilities such as vulnerability management, advanced email security, and threat native integration with Cisco Meraki and ThousandEyes will further enhance secure networking for Optus’ customers.

Key features of the new solution include 24/7 security monitoring for Optus’ enterprise and business customers, helping to ensure that connections, systems, and data remain secure. These services are backed by Cisco’s renowned Talos Intelligence Group, offering robust Cyber Incident Response services.
