Oppo is awesome. Now’s the time to pay attention.

The phone brand you’ve probably never heard of, and probably deserves some of your attention.

OPPO isn’t a name you might think of when you think of the big names in the smartphone world (hint: Cupertino, Korea). Maybe you’ve heard it in passing and not paid attention, or maybe this is the first time you’ve ever heard of OPPO. Well, take it from me, it’s time to pay attention.

OPPO is one of China’s top selling smartphone brands, and it’s rapidly making its presence known across the globe. Their success stems from a mix of premium phone features, first to market innovation and affordable prices.

Officially launching in 2004 OPPO is a relatively new player in the phone market. And since then it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say its rise has been meteoric. They now sell their smartphones in over 400,000 retail outlets globally and are continuing to grow.

Different ranges for different priorities

Like many other Android phone manufacturers, OPPO has a few different phone ranges. This includes:

• Find X: The Find X series – is the hero, flagship, premium series from OPPO, and priced to match. If you’re a fan of the Samsung S-series or the Pro and Pro Max iPhones, this range is OPPO’s answer. Also, like other manufacturers, there are different models within the range, often a Pro, a Standard and a Lite.
• Reno: The Reno seems to be the range where OPPO gives its designers a bit more latitude to be creative – to build phones for creative people ( hello, shark fin pop-up camera).
• A: The OPPO A-series phones are the no frills, budget friendly phones that are generally solid on battery life and camera, if broadly middle-of-the-road.
  

The Find X series

One of the taglines for the Find X series is “Uncover the Ultimate.” Ultimate it surely is.

Right now, we’re taking the Find X3 Pro as a representative, and that’s what we’re talking about when we talk about the Find X series.

Broadly, this is where you’ll find top spec phones with the latest technology that’s rolled out. This is often also where OPPO will go hard on high quality camera resolution, and typically has 3 lenses, if not more.

For example, the Find X3 Pro released in 2021, had 3 relatively expected cameras on the back (wide angle, ultra-wide angle and telephoto) with the addition of a fun 3 megapixel (MP) microlens camera – so if you wanted to see something super up close, you can.

OPPO’s Find X series can run in the $1K (AUD) range rather than the $2K range, which can leave your wallet unexpectedly pleased. Particularly when you compare it to some other premium flagship phones for sale these days, OPPO’s Find X series should be a strong contender.

The Reno series

The Reno series is an interesting alternative to the Find X series. Features in this series encourage creativity and exploration – new portrait options, a unique and eye-catching shark-fin pop up camera lens, inspiring colours and textures, all while still being able to provide a solid mobile phone experience.

Rather than focusing on super high spec displays (though still a very good resolution at 2400x1080 pixels in the Reno Z) or unnecessarily nuanced camera lenses, the Reno Z, in particular, takes a page out of Google’s book and looks at how to use technology smartly – and often in interesting ways.

The beauty is in the details, so let’s break down what it’s got to offer.

Other innovations from OPPO in the Reno series includes:

• Stunning photography and video with tri-lens technology: The tri-lens set up has you covered from every angle. This setup automatically adapts to support wide-angle, portrait and 10x hybrid zoom shots. It also supports stunning 4K video and low light photography.
• Expandable storage: The Reno 5G does have an external storage slot (microSD in this instance), though the recent Reno4 5G doesn’t . Check the specs on your device before committing.
• Security: OPPO supports under-screen fingerprint sensors for a number of their models; of course, check the specifications if it’s a feature you’re particularly interested in.
• OS: The operating system for the Reno family is their own ColourOS , built on the Android platform, this OS looks sleek and modern. You’ll find a range of intelligent features including Hyper Boost to boost the phone’s performance when needed, Game Assistant to streamline the gaming experience, Cloud Service for backup data storage and Smart Assistant for on-screen management of your fav apps and calendar events.
   

Did we mention affordability?

Historically, the Reno series is for sale for less than $1,000 – which, at Optus, means more affordable device repayments for your phone.

That’s the Reno series in a nutshell, and there’s a lot more to explore. We think it’s a great example of what differentiates OPPO from the competition - feature packed innovation, at an affordable price.

The A series

The A series from OPPO is typically less than $500 in Australia, (we offer the A54 5G starting at $398.88 plus your chosen plan fees).

As an example, for the A54 5G released in 2021, you’ve got a quad camera system, 4GB of internal RAM, 64GB of memory (with expandable storage up to 256GB ), and 5000mAh battery (typical) which equates with up to 44 hours of cellular web browsing time.

The A series is the phone for the commute-entertainment, email checking and web browsing typical person. If you’re looking for a powerhouse for your mobile gaming live streamer friend who also loves to watch movies on their phone, you’re probably more suited to suggesting (or gifting) the Find X series.

Plus, it’s hard to beat that price for what you get with all the OPPO families of mobile phones.
