How you can help healthcare workers without leaving the house

5 May 2020

Help our healthcare workers and share you space for free

Share with Oscar is a mobile parking app helping healthcare workers park closer to hospitals. Find out how you can help from home during COVID-19.

By staying at home, we’re doing our part to remain safe while also keeping more vulnerable members of our communities healthy. Across Australia, people are finding ways to be optimistic and stay connected to loved ones while in lockdown. From the viral trend of Aussies dressing up to take out the bins, Facebook hobbyist sewing scrubs for doctors, to single people going to dates at the supermarket, we’re doing our bit to flatten the curve while still having fun.

As we’ve started to adjust to working and studying from home – and sometimes hosting parties from our laptop screens – social distancing hasn’t stopped people from discovering ways to help those in need.  While our healthcare heroes around Australia are fighting the good fight against COVID-19, some of us at home are helping healthcare workers and other essential workers from our driveways.

Share with Oscar supporting healthcare workers with parking

Share with Oscar is a mobile app that was created for sharing driveways and parking spaces, similar to other sharing apps like Uber and Airbnb. Due to COVID-19, there’s been a severe shortage of parking around hospitals for healthcare workers. With nurses, doctors and other professionals working to keep Australians safe, parking closer to work could quite literally save lives.

Let’s all support our healthcare heroes during this time of need

The founders of the Share with Oscar app, Lisa Qi and Louise Chen, started a national campaign to give some hope and inspiration as to how we come together as a community to help in this fight, as well as share some stories of hope on the generosity of individuals. Across social media, healthcare workers and members of the community share how this appeal has helped them during COVID-19.

How you can help

During this time, if you have a parking space near a hospital, you can make it available to healthcare workers. You can put up your parking space for a fee or you can choose to make it available for free to healthcare workers.

We had a chat with Lisa and Louise about the Share with Oscar appeal. You can read the interview here.
