Android phones: four reasons to pick one up

Have you been thinking of picking up a new Android phone? Androids come in all shapes and sizes, with the 'Android' title applying to phones from Samsung, Google, Nothing, Motorola and a range of other smartphone manufacturers. There's a whole lot of great Android phones out there, and a lot of reasons why you should make the switch to Android.

We're talking about four big reasons in this article. We love Android phones, and we want you to get the phone that's right for you.

Why should I switch to an Android smartphone?

Switching to an Android phone gives you access to a bunch of features you might not have previously considered – or didn't realise could be so useful. We're showcasing a bunch of those awesome features that Android users get access to below.

Choice over default apps

Android phones naturally centre on choice and customisation, with the user able to select a wide range of default apps to suit their needs. Default apps for things like digital assistants, calling, texting, contactless payments and a host of other things come native in the software, allowing you to tweak your phone the way you like it. Don't like how the standard text message app works? Switch to one that is more your style.

Circle to Search

Depending on which Android phone you go with, be it a Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, or from another manufacturer, you'll get access to a range of awesome native exclusive features – but an epic feature shared among a wide range of newer Android handsets is Circle to Search.

Circle to Search is simple – you hold your finger down on the line at the bottom of your screen, or hold your finger on the digital 'home' button at the bottom of your screen, and the feature will activate. Simply circle something on your screen and it'll be searched for on Google. This feature can be searched to find things online, learn about things, or even translate text. Circle to Search is available on most new major Android phones, though we'd recommend checking if this feature is on the phone you're interested in buying.

Deep personalisation

Making sure your device looks gorgeous and up to your standards is super important. This is a field Android excels in – allowing the user to place a massive range of widgets around their home screen, deeply change their lockscreen, and ultimately tweak colours, positioning and amount of app icons. Some phones offer a deeper level of customisation, such as Nothing phones with Monochrome UI, and we'd recommend shopping for a device that rightly fits your personalisation needs.

Epic variety

Best of all about Android phones is that there's a lot of different kinds out there. Android is simply the underlying platform that a wide range of phone makers, such as Samsung, Google and Nothing, build atop with epic features. The trick is finding one of these devices that suits your needs. You might gravitate to Google Pixel's awesome simplicity, or Samsung's wide range of foldables. You might simply be looking for a phone that can do a whole lot below $1,000 – and there's a lot of Androids that can. It all comes down to you and what you're after.
