Supercars roar back into action in Perth

The long three-week wait for Supercars to hit the track again finally ended recently as the V8’s came alive in Perth with a total of three races, each with a different winner.

The first day of the race consisted of one 90-minute practice session, the drivers getting to grips with their cars, and allowing teams to make any changes they see fit to extract the best possible result. The two Walkinshaw Andretti United cars finished in P8 and P23.

Saturday rolled around and it was all eyes focused on qualifying for race 7. After a difficult session, with drivers not feeling confident in their cars, and reporting no grip, the Walkinshaw Andretti United boys qualified P14 (Percat) for Mobile 1 NTI Racing and P15 (Mostert) for Mobil 1 Optus Racing.

Race 7 proved another challenging day on the track, with Chaz finishing in an improved position of P11 and Nick dropping a few places to finish P17. The strategy saw an early stop for Nick and a stop later in the race for Chaz, resulting in both drivers struggling to find the pace.

Sunday - the final day. A more positive session saw Mobil 1 Optus Racing driven by Chaz Mostert qualifying for both race 8 & 9. This meant he would start the final two races from 6^th and 7^th, hoping for a better result than the previous day.

It was lights out and away they went down the home straight on the second last race of the weekend. A promising start by Chaz meant he’d held his position in P6, with Nick making up 1 place and slotting into 15^th. 42 laps later Chaz saw the chequered flag in P4 with Nick coming home in P19 having to nurse a damaged car back to the garage.

The final showdown saw the pack head into turn 1 fast, both Nick and Chaz keeping their noses clean getting the first lap done without too much drama. After an uneventful race, Chaz and Nick brought both cars back in one piece, finishing in P5 and P13 respectively.

Next race is on 19-21 May in Tasmania. Will Brodie Kostecki extend his lead in the championship? Or will someone take the lead off him?
