It’s never too late to start (and keep) a New Year’s resolution

Take The Summer Challenge with nutritionist Nicolette Casarotto and health & fitness leader Todd Liubinskas.
The New Year is always a time where resolutions are set. Gyms suddenly see spikes in their memberships, more books are being bought and thoughts about travelling begin to be conceived.
But before we know it, the schedules of our everyday kicks in and suddenly the new version of ourselves takes a back seat as we prioritise old habits over the goals we wanted to achieve.
Year after year, surveys have shown that the most common resolution is to be healthier in both fitness and diet. We begin with daily walks and start to look up healthy recipes to meal plan for the week.
Unfortunately though, statistically it’s more than likely that half of all resolutions are abandoned in March – with the main reasons being a lack of motivation or not having enough time.
Sustaining motivation is hard even under the best of circumstances but when time to ourselves is limited – it can be especially difficult to choose our personal improvement when we have all the excuses in the world to do other things.
No one’s saying that it’s going to be easy but, with the right balance of time and commitment, it is achievable. So even if the fitness goals you pictured at the beginning of the year have started to fizzle, don’t be discouraged - you can always pick them up and try again.
It’s important to remember that health resolutions are not always immediate and often times can take months or even years to accomplish. While it can be frustrating not to have six pack abs at the end of a workout, health should never be about looking a certain way – it’s more about feeing good and becoming the best version of you. So pat yourself on the back for making it this far and keep going.
One of the best tips to maintaining a fitness journey is not doing it alone. Having a workout buddy will keep you accountable, provide support and let’s face it – it’s more fun to work out (and complain too) with someone else.
So grab a friend or a loved one and start your physical and wellness journey with Optus Sport on our Summer Challenge.
