With the Supercars season set to kick off in 2025 at the Sydney 500 opening round (21 to 23 February) at Sydney Motorsport Park, we caught up with Mobil 1 Optus Racing driver, Chaz Mostert for his take on the year ahead.

Q. Last year was an exciting year for you and the team. Looking ahead to the 2025 Supercars season, what are your main goals and expectations for the year?

Chaz - The great thing about starting a new season is that the points are all reset so we start on an even playing field. It’s a whole new ball game this year, the Supercars Championship is shaking things up with a finals system which will bring a lot more entertainment to the season. We had a successful 2024 season and as a team we definitely want to continue building on that momentum.

Q. As a driver, what role do you think mental preparation plays in winning in this sport, and how do you approach that aspect of your racing?

Chaz - It’s important to be both physically and mentally prepared before any race weekend, you want to be at your best to compete your best. When you’re in the right mindset, as a driver you are able to concentrate better which helps us perform to the best of our abilities.

Q. Do any of these tips translate to your life off the track?

Chaz - 100%, for me, it’s key that I keep a positive mindset. If I have a bad race weekend, I keep that negativity behind me, I never bring my work home with me as it helps me focus on the future and not dwell on the past. Unless it’s a race win or podium, I’ll definitely be happy to bring that home with me!

Q. What are you looking forward to the most this season? Is there a particular round?

Chaz - I’m honestly just looking forward to getting back out on the track, I’ve been counting down the days to when we start the season since Sunday of Adelaide! This year the Paperclip (Queensland Raceway) is back, it’s one of my favourite tracks as it’s only got six corners so it’s easier to remember than the longer tracks.

Q. On the topic of educating kids on digital safety with the Optus Digital Thumbprint Program, what motivated you to get involved?

Chaz - I had seen a couple of my mates get some pretty horrible comments on their social media posts and I couldn’t stand for it anymore. I have always been an advocate for treating people nicely so I wanted to do something that would make a difference even if it helped just one person.

Q. What do you believe is the most important piece of advice for young people when it comes to staying safe online?

Chaz - It is so important to be safe online, there are a lot of different ways you can stay safe online but one piece of advice I would give for young people is to make sure you never share your passwords. By sharing your passwords even to friends and family, it gives them access to sensitive information you don’t want shared.

Q. Can you share any success stories or positive feedback you’ve received from your work helping kids understand difficult topics such as cyberbullying?

Chaz - It’s been really rewarding being able to see the change in mindset of kids wanting to be safe online. With the help of the Optus Digital Thumbprint program, I have been able to go to multiple schools all across Australia to meet young kids and talk about digital safety and cyberbullying. It puts a smile on my face being able to ask the kids questions and quiz them on the topics we have talked about and they know the answers.
