What are Spotify’s secret features?

Whether you’ve been using Spotify for years or you’re new to the game, we look at the features you might’ve overlooked on the world’s most popular music app.

2020 has come to an end and the world is collectively letting out a large sigh of relief. And as years go, this one was, ah… different. Which is probably why your “Spotify Wrapped” may have been a little different to previous years. We know ours was. Anyway, since basically everyone is talking about Spotify and has posted their most played songs of 2020 on Instagram, we’d thought we take a look at some of Spotify’s lesser-known features. So here we go.

Guilty pleasures remaining private

Sometimes you just want to listen to some Back-Street Boys (back streets back alright) without the world knowing how many times you’ve listened to it and that you listen to them often.  If you want to keep jamming to those mid-nineties/ early 2000s bops in private, you can. Simply tap the three dots on your playlist and then tap the “make a secret” option. And then you’re free to boogie down with the best of Back Street Boys without the judgement.

Dust off that high school French

Right, not everyone knows this wizard feature Spotify has. If you want to use your commute to better yourself and learn a different language you can. Just type something like “Learn Russian” into the Spotify search bar and it’ll appear. The best thing about it? It’s free. So, you can start learning whatever language you want without spending a dime.

Getting back your deleted bangers

Putting together a Spotify playlist is an art form. It can be the make or break of a party, a bar or your morning commute. So, it hurts just that little bit extra when you accidentally delete it after months of curating the perfect playlist. But never fear! You can actually get deleted playlists back. Here’s how. Firstly, open up your account in a web browser (not the app) on the computer. Log in and on the left, it will say “Recover Playlists.” Find the one you want and click “Restore.” And there you have it. Dance the night away.

Make your jams high quality

If you want to listen to an album, and we mean really listen to it, wouldn’t you prefer if it was in ultra-extra high quality? Well, surprise, surprise Spotify has got that covered too. Go to your account then click “Audio Quality”, then toggle to “high quality.” But beware, streaming music in high quality will drain your data, so make sure you’ve got enough on your plan. If you don’t, and music is life, check out our data-heavy mobiles plans here.

Alright, so there we have it. YouTube eat your heart out. If this has inspired you to get back into your music, podcasts or whatever make sure you have the right gear. Check out our favourite speakers or if you like to listen to your tunes privately peruse our collection of headphones.
