Remember at the beginning of the year when we all wanted to read more as a part of our New Year’s resolutions? Well, if you’re anything like me, the books purchased in January have now turned into wonderful (and possibly dusty) home décor – but we can do better than that.

While the rationale of “I just can’t find the right book” is a pretty strong excuse, it’s never too late to start reading.

Yes, we agree - there are too many books to filter through and so little time to do so, but why not just start with some modern greats? Book fanatics and reviews have done the legwork so we can get our reading habits started.

Spanning all genres and periods, we’ve compiled some of the best titles that everyone is talking about to help kickstart your new reading hobby. Best of all, they are all available on Kindle Unlimited with SubHub.

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

You may have seen this book trending on TikTok and rightfully so. While It Ends with Us is technically not a young adult novel – it was labelled as the book that got a whole generation of teenagers reading.

Set in Boston, a young college graduate named Lily starts her own business to make something of herself. Soon after she meets Ryle – a neurosurgeon who she immediately has a spark with, but perhaps things are not always as they seem.

Assertive and stubborn, Ryle has a ‘no dating rule’ that just doesn’t sit right with Lily. Falling more and more in love, Lily attempts to learn about his past and why he won’t commit. It Ends with Us is a heart wrenching story that somehow makes the reader feel hope, joy and sorrow all at the same time – it’s got everything you want if you were looking for an emotional roller coaster.

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Remember the days when news about the royal family was light-hearted? If you were longing for a sweet story involving politics and royal affairs – Red, White and Royal Blue will give you an easy read full of humour and charm.

An instant New York Times bestseller, Red, White and Royal Blue follows Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the current sitting president and Prince Henry who have to portray a fake friendship for the tabloids for the sake of both of their family’s reputation.

As they stage their friendship for publicity purposes, the two become closer and unexpectedly find themselves in a secret relationship. While they have to present a friendship for the media- they must also hide their intimate relationship at the same time to protect their families’ career and national expectation.

Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen

Anyone familiar with the works of Jonathan Franzen, will know that his books are albeit often lengthy are full of in-depth characters and moral questioning. What would you do? Do you blame her? Whose side are you?

In his sixth novel, Crossroads is a family saga that centres around the Hildebrandts in the fictional small town of New Prospect, Illinois. Parents Russ and Marion are at the brink of their marriage collapsing and their four children Clem, Becky, Perry, and Judson are about to come to face to face with the reality that their parent`s are only human at the end of the day.

The unique storytelling of Crossroads is that each chapter is told through the eyes of a different family member, showcasing the difference between generations, gender, and maturity.

Honeymoon by James Patterson & Howard Roughan

Arguably one of our most celebrated crime novelists, James Patterson has written over 200 novels including the Alex Cross and Women’s Murder Club series.

Combined his talents with author Howard Roughan and you will undoubtedly have an enjoyable murder mystery read on your hands. Honeymoon follows the beautiful Nora Sinclair, an accomplished woman who romances men that mysteriously die soon after.

FBI agent, John O’Hara must uncover the crimes but with Nora’s charm and beauty – he may accidently fall victim himself. If you were looking for a quick read or just wanted to read a short chapter here and there when you can, a James Patterson novel may work for your lifestyle – and Honeymoon is a good place to start.

My DreamTime: A Memoir of Tennis and Teamwork by Ash Barty

Our very own Chief Inspiration Officer - Ash Barty has written a book!

We have included this book not because Barty is a part of the Optus family but because it’s a wonderful and inspiring read that may even change your perspective on what you can achieve. Only in her mid-twenties, retired tennis player Ash Barty has achieved more than most can even dream of – however it did come at a cost with endure perseverance and hours of dedication, both physical and mental.

My Dream Time follows Ash’s childhood all the way to 2022, telling stories of how she grew up, her tennis journey and most honest of all – her experiences with nerves and anxiety, in which she continues to conquer.
