Customer story: meet Kate Greenwood, founder of Greenwood Designs

Since 2006, the number of women owning a small business has increased three times faster than the number of men. The decision to launch, own and run a small business takes optimism, confidence and energy.

This International Women’s Day, Optus Business is celebrating the Australian women who’ve taken that leap and decided to have a go – with great success.

Meet one of our amazing customers - Kate Greenwood, Founder of Greenwood Designs.

What’s your business called and what does it do?

Greenwood Designs is a trendy jewellery and accessory brand, specialising in fabulous accessories for all occasions.

When did you start it, and how long did it take you to make the decision to launch?

I kicked off this creative journey a decade ago and, after juggling my corporate gig, motherhood, and growing this side hustle for over two years, I took a leap of faith to fully commit to Greenwood Designs and I haven't looked back.

Has your gender played a role in your business journey, if any? If so, how?

Absolutely! With a product lineup geared towards women, it's helped me connect with my audience. I'm also genuinely passionate about employing local women and collaborating with fellow female business owners, as we understand the everyday juggle and can support each other's endeavours.

What’s the hardest part of being a business owner?

Wearing multiple hats – that's a tricky balancing act. Over the years, I've been figuring out which hat suits me best and when to seek help in other areas. It's a constant learning curve, but hey, it keeps things interesting!

The best part?

Despite the long days, the hustle is incredibly rewarding. Bringing ideas to life, growing a team, making decisions, and seeing it all come together fills me with pride.

What’s surprised you along the way?

The amazing community I've created and surrounded myself with – from customers and suppliers to stockists, contractors, and staff. It brings genuine happiness and keeps me motivated day in and day out.

Where to next?

Greenwood Designs turns 10 this year, and we're feeling 10 years young! Here's to hoping we'll be here for another fantastic decade, creating and designing fun, functional accessories for women to look and feel fabulous!
