    Frequently asked questions

    What is Optus Loop?

Optus Loop is a sophisticated, cloud-based business VoIP communications system  with advanced features to handle calls to your business. It has collaboration features which enable your team to work effectively on the go. Optus Loop is a VoIP system that  can be used via desk phones and computers in the office or mobile devices via the RingCentral App.

You'll need an internet connection, or 4G/5G mobile network connection, to use Optus Loop in Australia and you can connect via Wi-Fi if you’re overseas.  Available to business customers with an ABN/ACN. All pricing listed is inclusive of GST.

Our business’ mobiles/internet aren’t with Optus. Can Optus Loop be used on another network?

Yes. You can use Optus Loop on other 4G/5G mobile networks in Australia and via Wi-Fi. You can also use Optus Loop via Wi-Fi when you're overseas to stay in touch with clients in Australia. Please note international data roaming rates for your mobile service may apply if you don't use Optus Loop via Wi-Fi when overseas.

If you use Optus Loop on the Optus 4G/5G network in Australia, your data usage is zero-rated. If your mobile devices aren't on the Optus network and you don't use Optus Loop via Wi-Fi in Australia, normal data rates for your mobile service will apply.

How much does Optus Loop cost?

For an accurate quote based on your specific requirements, call 1300 106 481 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm local time) or request a call back.

How soon can I be connected?

Setup time depends on your specific needs:

    • Standard setups: 4-6 weeks
    • Complex migrations or multiple locations: 6-8 weeks

Complications that affect timing include site complexity (i.e. cabling or site build), number porting or hardware needs. For a personalised timeline, call 1300 106 481 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm local time) or request a call back.

Can I transfer my number to Optus Loop?

Yes, in most cases we can transfer your existing numbers from another provider. We can only port active services.

    You'll need to provide:

    • Your current phone numbers
    • Account number with current provider (Must be the owner of the existing number)
    • Copy of your most recent bill
    • Additional information may be required

    Important limitations:

Numbers used for these services should not be ported unless an alternative is arranged first.

The porting process typically takes 20 business days.

What is Auto Attendant and how does it work?

Auto Attendant is your virtual receptionist. It greets callers and allows them to select a menu option to direct them to the right person or department automatically.

You can easily customise greetings and menu options through the Optus Loop online portal, with different settings for business hours and after hours.

What call centre capabilities does Optus Loop offer?

Optus Loop includes essential call centre features:

    • Auto Attendant to welcome and direct callers
    • Call Queues with hold music and regular updates
    • Flexible routing to desk phones, mobiles, or PCs

Customers contact a single business number, and the system promptly routes their calls to team members who are available, regardless of location.

For advanced call centre needs, speak to a specialist on 1300 106 481 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm local time) about additional solutions/features/options.

What's the benefit of my team using Optus Loop instead of just using their mobiles?

With Optus Loop, employees are using your business fixed line numbers on their mobiles – business numbers your customers know. Customers aren't connecting via your team's personal mobile numbers – ensuring your customers can still contact your business if the staff member leaves – and you can add or remove Optus Loop users as needed.

Optus Loop can also help you avoid the costs of a business mobile fleet as staff can bring their own devices to use with it.

What kind of internet connection do I need to use Optus Loop as an office phone solution?

As your new Optus Loop service is an Over-the-Top VoIP service, Optus Loop recommends the use of a dedicated internet connection (such as business grade internet or 4G/5G mobile broadband) to ensure good call quality. For best voice call quality, you will need 100kbps upstream and downstream (200kbps in total) bandwidth per concurrent call.

Your internet connection usability should be confirmed by running a RingCentral Network Test over the internet connection you plan to use for Optus Loop, via the same connection method (either Ethernet or Wi-Fi) you will be using. If you have multiple locations, it's best to run the test from all locations to confirm internet suitability. Each test takes approximately 3 minutes. Take the test here.

As Optus Loop is a VoIP service, we would generally recommend having a dedicated internet connection (such as 4G/5G mobile broadband), unless you have enough bandwidth for all users in your office.

What is VoIP and how does it work?

VoIP stands for "Voice Over Internet Protocol." It uses the internet to make and receive calls by sending voice data through an IP network rather than by a traditional telephone structure, often referred to as a "Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)."

How does call recording work in Optus Loop?

Call Recording is available as automatic or on-demand, based on the license type. Speak to a specialist on 1300 106 481 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm local time) for more details about your specific requirements.

What's the difference between Essentials and Professional licences?

Each licence tier offers different features to suit your business needs. Key differences include call handling capabilities and user limits.

A detailed feature comparison is available in our compare plans pop up or speak to a specialist on 1300 106 481 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm local time) for personalised guidance

Can I present a mobile number as the outbound Calling Line Identification (CLI)?

Customers may only present any of their own Loop landline numbers. Mobile numbers, 1800, 1300 or 13 'freecall' numbers cannot be used as your Optus Loop number.

    Important limitations:

    • Temporary travel: Works well for business trips in Australia and overseas
    • Permanent international setup: Not supported due to Australian Numbering Plan (ANP) regulations
    • Emergency services: 000 access is compromised outside Australia
    • Hardware: Cannot install physical handsets at permanent overseas locations (no break/fix support)

    Additional costs:

    • International data roaming charges may apply unless connected via Wi-Fi

What handsets can I use? Can I bring my own device (BYOD)?

Optus Loop supports a range of Yealink and HP/Poly desk phones. You can also use the RingCentral app as a softphone on your PC, laptop, or mobile.

    Bring Your Own Device (BYOD):

Desk phones: Must be Optus-supplied (ensures warranty and compatibility)

Headsets: Can be purchased elsewhere as the desk phones support certain Bluetooth devices. Check with the specialist team on 1300 106 481 or your Account manager for compatibility

Mobile devices: Employees can use their own phones, tablets, or computers to run the RingCentral app

How can I pay for Optus Loop hardware and installation?

    You have flexible payment options:

    • Upfront payment: Pay for all hardware and installation services upfront
