How 5G Could Change the Game

5G is set to make our lives easier in such a variety of ways, it sometimes feels like the possibilities are endless. Not only will the advanced technologies bring us better internet, enhanced entertainment and time-saving speed, but it’s also projected to revolutionise several industries including manufacturing, healthcare and automotive. This could result in huge benefits for everyone, so we take a quick peek into the future possibilities of 5G.
Manufacturing
There is so much potential to create revolutionised manufacturing, including the development of “smart factories” that will be characterised by a new kind of connectivity. This could include linking automated machines, industrious robots, and advanced software that create far more dynamic production capabilities. How does this affect us? The implementation of 5G “smart factories” could bring better products to the market at a faster rate, from food to household goods and beyond. But how? Like all things 5G, the possibilities are infinite. An example of how 5G can enhance the creation of household goods include AR (augmented reality) smart glasses that assist workers throughout assembly processes, empowering them to do their jobs quicker and more accurately. The increased speed and bandwidth of 5G, will enable smart glasses to operate with clear vision and with little delay.
Healthcare
Clear, quick and reliable communications systems are essential in a fully-functioning healthcare system, and 5G will offer the tools to connect health providers to their community in more ways than one. In the future, the almost instantaneous communication between devices enabled by the 5G network will allow for wireless remote surgery driven by AI (artificial intelligence) robotics, virtual reality and augmented reality simulations. This could allow for rural communities, who often don’t have access to specialist surgeons, to access rare medical procedures that they would otherwise have been unable to access due to their location.
There’s also the opportunity to put 5G at the centre stage of the health industry by providing real-time health management systems. This would allow doctors and nurses to track your medical records to recommend treatments, medicines and set up follow-up appointments. 5G could also aid in the proactive remote monitoring of patients with AI wearables and sensors, providing instant data and statistics to doctors, allowing them to check-up on their patients more regularly.
Automotive
Fully autonomous driverless cars seem like the sort of thing that are generations away, but 5G connectivity through the enablement of mass machine type communication could bring the next generation of driverless cars to the forefront of automotive technology. Connected cars are set to be a key feature of 5G technology growing beyond its entertainment and convenience functions, developing into a critical enabler of safer, more sustainable mobility. This is likely to be seen in autonomous driving, cooperative mobility and car maintenance. These economic and sustainable developments are possible with 5G, which can provide all the rigorous connectivity requirements that allow the automotive industry to evolve forward.
