What is a scam?

A scam is an attempt to deceive an individual or business into making a payment or handing over personal information. Scams have a real impact on Australians, with $2.2 billion lost to scams in 2025 according to Scamwatch. Scams leave people feeling embarrassed, stressed, distrustful and out of pocket.   

We’re blocking scam calls and text messages every day on our network to help keep you safe. But, it’s just as important that you know how to spot a scam and how to protect yourself from the dangers of scammers.
