What to do on Your Optus nbn Installation Day

23 April 2019, 3:49 PM

Getting setup for your nbn installation is easy, and you can chat to us if you have any questions.

So the time has arrived and you’re ready to complete the nbn® connection to your home or business. If you’ve chosen to connect to the nbn with Optus, you have a couple of different options available to you to finish getting setup and connecting your hardware. If you feel confident, you can tackle the process yourself and we’ll provide you with the components you need. Otherwise, if you’re not as comfortable, then you can organise a professional installation.

Whatever option you choose, we’re here to help.

Self-installation

Once you’ve picked your Optus nbn plan and completed the purchase process, we’ll send you out an installation pack with everything you need. As part of the pack, you will receive an Optus Wi-Fi modem so you can connect multiple devices to your nbn connection.

Installing the modem is easy. All you need to do is follow the included instructions and connect the modem to the nbn connection box or telephone line installed in your home. Then connect the modem to your computer, switch it on and follow the prompts to complete the setup process. Once the install is complete, your home or business will be connected to the nbn.

For some types of nbn technology, a visit from a nbn technician may be required to install some equipment, even if you’re planning to the rest yourself.

Professional installation

If you don’t feel confident completing your nbn installation on your own, no worries. If you’ve chosen an Optus nbn plan you can organise an Optus technician to visit and do it all for you. You’ll still be sent an installation pack with an Optus Wi-Fi modem, but you can just hang on to those until the technician arrives.

Since every home is different, and there are a number of different nbn technology types, installation time can vary. In most cases, the technician will simply need to connect the modem to the nbn equipment already in your home and then set it up with your computer. From there, they’ll check to make sure everything is working and your devices can connect to the nbn network. Please note that a professional installation will incur an additional charge.

There may be some non-standard cases where you require a professional installation. These include situations where unusually large lengths of cabling are required or where two or more walls need to be crossed to complete the run.
