These days, domestic and international travel isn’t complete without the appropriate tech and accessories. From noise-cancelling headphones to power banks to outlet adaptors, there are many different gadgets you can bring on your travels to make being on-the-go easier and more convenient.

Find out more about must-have travel tech, gadgets, and accessories here.

Noise-cancelling headphones

If you’re going to take a flight or travel on public transport, it might be a good idea to bring noise-cancelling headphones with you. Designed to do exactly as they say, noise-cancelling headphones use modern technology to eliminate background noise and provide you with an immersive listening experience. You can use either ANC (active noise cancellation) for blocking out all external noises or ENC (environmental noise cancellation) for a more natural sound.

Wearing noise-cancelling headphones certainly increases your chances of travelling in peace and even squeezing in some sleep here and there. You never know when there might be a young child throwing a tantrum a few aisles in front of you, or an angry businessman making a long call seated next to you.

There’s a wide range of noise-cancelling headphones you can purchase on the market right now catering to your budget, functional needs, and aesthetic priorities. Check out Optus audio and headphone options if you’re looking for noise-cancelling headphones for travel.

Portable speaker

Do you need music to function? Even while travelling and visiting an unfamiliar environment, you can ensure you still have music playing around you with a portable speaker. Simultaneously packing a phonic punch yet physically compact for convenient travel, portable speakers are a great accessory to bring with you while on the go.

Most modern portable speakers feature Bluetooth compatibility so you can connect your mobile device to them easily. In addition to built-in stands, some portable speakers are also designed with handles so you can carry and hang them wherever you need to. Some more advanced portable speakers are even waterproof so you can blast your playlist while in the shower.

Optus offers a selection of travel-friendly portable speakers in various colours and sizes.

Power bank

You never know how long you’ll be out venturing for and who knows when you’ll need your phone or other electronic device to hunt for directions or search for local language translations. To keep all your electronic devices juiced up during your travels, it may be worth considering bringing a power bank with you.

Power banks come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and charging capabilities. Some come with multiple charging ports so you can charge two or more devices at once. Depending on the battery life of your devices, you may need to invest in power banks with larger mAh (milliamp hour) capacity.

mAh is a measurement for electric power in batteries and is also used to determine the watts (W) specifications of your power bank (how much energy is delivered to charge your mobile device). The higher the mAh value, the more power and battery life your power bank will have, hence the more effective they may be in keeping your electronic devices topped up.

Discover the power bank models offered at Optus and take one with you on your travels.

Travel adaptor

For travellers going overseas, it may be advantageous to bring a universal power adaptor, so you don’t have to worry about incompatibility with foreign outlets. These outlets convert your home power plugs to the shape of outlets in your foreign hotel or accommodation. They come with Micro USB, USB Type-C, and more USB options so you can find one to suit your device needs.

When using a travel adaptor, remember that you’ll need to ensure your appliance meets the voltage requirements of the region you’re travelling to – otherwise, there may be safety concerns. Find travel adaptors to bring with you on your travels from the Optus catalogue.

Mobile travel apps

Chances are, you’ll be bringing your phone or mobile device with you while travelling. If so, be sure to download a few travel-friendly apps so you can access directions, hotel options, food recommendations, and other useful things on your phone easily. What’s even better, these apps are usually free and downloadable from both the App Store and Google Play so you can rest assured your travels run smoothly.
