With the 2024 Supercar Championship off to flying start, we caught up with Optus Ambassador and Supercars legend, Chaz Mostert to get his view on the season and what drives him.

What do you hope to achieve this season?

This year we want to be more consistent across both qualifying and races, last year this was where we struggled so it’s where we want to improve on most this year.

Last year we didn’t get any race wins for a few different reasons, and that really bugs me, so I definitely want to tick that one off early this season, we were so close at the Bathurst 500 so that makes myself and the team even hungrier to get it at the next round.

Driving supercars at such a high level must be both physically and mentally challenging. How do you keep yourself fit and motivated?

I like to cycle online with my mates, it’s a great way for me to stay fit throughout the season but also a great way to stay connected. I also have three dogs at home who keep me fit running after them around the house.

The team and people around me keep me motivated, I see how hard the boys and girls work at the workshop and it makes me want to do and be my best for them!

What is your favourite track and/or event that you are looking forward to this season and why?

You can’t beat Bathurst! It’s the toughest track on the calendar, you have to get everything perfect from everyone in the team to even get a chance at winning it! Plus, I get to drive with my mate Lee Holdsworth which is awesome.

You have a new driver in Ryan Wood on the team. Tell us a little about that?

It’s awesome to have Ryan join the team this year, he’s super-fast, he proved that with his qualifying speed at the Bathurst 500, he will for sure be keeping me on my toes this year. We get along really well away from the track as well, we’re always joking around and having fun.

Off track, what are your hobbies and interests?

I like to cycle online with my mates, it’s a great way to stay connected whilst keeping fit for the season. When I want to get away from everything I like to go out on my boat with my friends and family, they really help keep me stable when I’m not racing.

You have a particular interest for helping kids stay safe online. Can you tell us a bit more about that – how your interest came about and why it’s important to you?

I saw a few of my mates being subject to some pretty harsh comments online and I couldn’t stand it anymore. It’s important that everyone feels safe when they are online, teaching kids how to behave online helps minimise social hate from a young age.

You have been involved in the Optus Digital Thumbprint program – what are your thoughts on the program and how it can help kids to stay safe online?

I love being a part of the Optus Digital Thumbprint program, it’s so important to learn from a young age how to behave online. Being able to speak to thousands of kids across the country about online safety, something that is really important to me, is really special. Learning about online safety and how to be respectful online are key skills to learn from a young age to ensure a more enjoyable online experience.

What would you say to kids who aspire to follow in your footsteps? What tips would you give them?

Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way, if something seems too tough or scary, give it a go! You will surprise yourself at what you can do and that feeling you get when you accomplish something that you didn’t think was possible is like no other feeling.

And as an Optus ambassador, what tips would you give kids who may have a dream for the future (not necessarily to do with motorsports) that may seem unachievable? What can they do to make their dreams a reality?

Keep going when things get tough, that’s where your most important lessons are learnt. Keep a positive attitude as well, I don’t go into races thinking I am going to lose, I go in thinking I am going to win, putting a positive mindset into everything you do with not only help you perform better but you’ll have more fun doing it.
