Optus has switched on its first tower in one of Bundaberg’s rural towns, Apple Tree Creek. The new tower will strengthen Optus’ services across the region and will provide locals with competition and choice to join our best network ever.
The mobile tower will help provide enhanced connectivity to the township, in particular in-building coverage, and help close the coverage gap along that part of the Bruce Highway. Whilst the population in Apple Tree Creek is small, the area is a major arterial road for the region with approximately 6500 cars that travel along that stretch of the Bruce Highway every day. Apple Tree Creek is a convenient stop on the way to either Bundaberg or Gin Gin so the tower comes as welcome news for travellers in the area.
Optus Territory General Manager for Wide Bay Queensland Mungo O’Brien said, “We’re very happy to be able to help close the coverage gap for our customers. Apple Tree Creek is a convenient stop on the way to either Bundaberg or Gin Gin so it’s been incredibly important for us to be able to offer local residents and businesses genuine choices for their telecommunication services.
“We know that right now, more than ever, it's so important to our customers to have access to a reliable network and we’re proud to be able to offer our fast 4G service providing optimal speeds for streaming and downloading content.”
Optus continues to invest to improve coverage, reliability, and speed across its regional Queensland mobile network. Over the past year alone, Optus has invested $2.6 million in building 11 new sites across the state. Optus will be building on this figure with 27 new sites planned over the next 12 months.
