Optus strengthens coverage in North West with launch of two new towers

18 June 2021

Optus has switched on two new towers in Sulphur Creek and West Devonport, strengthening Optus’ services across the north-west region of Tasmania and providing locals looking for value and a world class network an enticing option.

The Optus-owned towers will provide dedicated and upgraded coverage to locals and tourists on-the-go in the Devonport and Burnie region.

Optus Territory General Manager for Tasmania, Peter West, highlighted the importance of improved mobile coverage in the region.

“We are dedicated to strengthening our coverage and services in the North West region and to providing a reliable network for our customers, allowing them to stay connected whether they’re traveling, working or learning.”

“As we continue rolling out our best network ever, we are delivering customers with faster download speeds and reliable connectivity. As more Australians are travelling through these areas, these new sites couldn’t come at a better time.

“Our two new towers at Sulphur Creek and West Devonport not only deliver improved 4G mobile connectivity, coverage and capacity by easing the load on sites in the area, but also provide competition and choice for local businesses and residents by offering a fantastic mobile service alternative. This, combined with our new retail-presence in Devonport, ensures locals have greater access to our quality customer service and support.”

The two new towers are a part of Optus’ ongoing local investment in Tasmania. Over the past five years, Optus has invested $35 million, building 50 new sites including delivering two mobile black spot programs. In 2021, Optus switched on three new sites in the North West.

“This is an important region for us, and we look forward to continuing our commitment to investing in Tasmania’s far North West region, so customers and visitors can do more of the things they love, in more places.”
