Sport and Entertainment Fans to experience 5G at Optus Stadium

Sports and entertainment fans won’t just get the thrill of watching live sport and concerts when they return to Perth’s landmark Optus Stadium, they will also be able to access the benefits of Optus
5G, with Optus today switching on 5G connectivity throughout key areas of the stadium.
Optus has completed its rollout of 5G within the Stadium and the Stadium pitch, with corporate suites and seating areas all receiving 5G connectivity providing Optus 5G customers with access to Optus’ fast 5G.
Further enriching the in-stadium fan experience, Optus has also integrated 5G into the popular Optus Stadium Tour package, offering an immersive and interactive experience for tour patrons that will enhance the stadium experience. Using a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra the tour will initially include a day to night view of the world’s most beautiful stadium, including the Stadium’s famous light show, using augmented reality run over 5G - with plans to launch additional content over the coming months.
“5G will be transformative in the home, at work and when we are at play, like cheering on your team or singing along to your favourite artist. We know people have been eager to get back into Optus Stadium with a full crowd and with Optus 5G now enabled throughout the stadium, fans will be able to connect at the speed of their excitement,” said Kelly Bayer Rosmarin, CEO, Optus.
5G is an ideal network solution for stadiums with 5G enabling large numbers of users in a crowd to connect simultaneously. Part of Optus’ 5G network roll-out is to enable innovative new experiences across multiple industries including sports and entertainment.
“This next generation technology has the potential to revolutionise the way sport and live entertainment is enjoyed,” added Ms Bayer Rosmarin.
Optus customers visiting Optus Stadium, who have a compatible handset, will benefit from the newly switched on 5G technology with faster download speeds and a more reliable video and app streaming experience.

Today’s switch on of 5G at Optus Stadium has been made possible thanks to the collaborative support of the Government of Western Australia, stadium technology delivery partner Nokia and Venues Live.
Optus currently has more than 1000 5G sites switched on with more than 100 of these in Western Australia.
