Optus extends its support of digital eSIMs with another Australian first

1 October 2020

Give your current provider the flick and connect via My Optus app

In an Australian first, Optus is the first mobile network provider in Australia to allow customers to connect to a mobile network using an eSIM via an app on their phone. We have made it easier than ever before for new Postpaid mobile customers to join our amazing mobile network, connecting digitally via the My Optus App with a digital eSIM purchased via optus.com.au or via all other Optus stores and channels. Digital eSIM is also available for Prepaid mobile customers via Optus stores.

Optus was first to launch eSIM support for mobile phones to Australians in April 2019 and today’s innovation transforms the consumer journey with a process that regularly takes days (waiting for SIM delivery) taking just minutes to complete, activating digitally via the My Optus app.

Optus VP, TV, Content & Product Development, Clive Dickens said, “Our customers want simplicity and convenience, which is why we are thrilled to extend our digital eSIM product and technology for new mobile customers. Buying a service with an Optus digital eSIM online offers a simple digital way of connecting to Optus without leaving your home or workplace.”

“eSIM also eliminates the hassle of having to carry around both a work phone and a personal phone, and when combined with a physical SIM in the one device, provides an enhanced experience allowing customers to make and receive calls from two different mobile numbers from two different carriers without the need to switch between devices.”

“We know that our customers are also looking for new ways to make sustainable, environmentally friendly changes to their everyday lives, and by selecting to activate with digital eSIM, customers can save another bit of plastic from our oceans and another delivery truck on our busy roads.”

Optus digital eSIM will be made available to customers in the coming week.
