Optus generates a robust network in regional Queensland

20 July 2020

Rolls out 33 generators at key sites across the state

As part of Optus’ ongoing commitment to keeping its customers connected, 33 generators have been rolled out in the regions of Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton and Fraser Coast to improve the reliability of its regional network at key sites in the area.

This forms part of a nationwide deployment program to improve the resiliency of the Optus regional network.

Optus Territory General Manager for North and Central Queensland, Dave Morrissey said, “We know that network continuity during natural disasters is critical and while the industry works on a range of solutions with energy providers and emergency services this boost of new generators is crucial to ensure our sites are best supported to handle any unfavourable weather conditions and deliver a resilient network.”

In the last six years, Optus has invested more than $7 billion into its network and with over 8000 mobile sites Australia wide is offering real choice and competition for communities, even in some of the most remote parts of the country.

“Our network is stronger than ever before in regional Australia and by deploying generators at key sites across regions of Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton, we look forward to putting the best possible measures in place to maintain network service continuity.”

Optus has recently announced its updated regional offer which gives Australians a fair go by dropping Optus Choice and Optus One plans by 20% across the whole of Tasmania and the Northern Territory, as well as regional parts of SA, NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
