Optus tower brings relief to Lexton and tackles Mobile Black Spot

Optus has switched on a new tower in Lexton, delivering much needed coverage and connectivity to Western Victoria whilst also bringing relief to the town following the summer’s devastating bushfires, as part of the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

In partnership with the Victorian Government, the new Optus tower located on Prince Street will support mobile connectivity in over 150 homes allowing residents to make and receive mobile calls, texts and browse the internet often for the first time from their properties. 

In addition, more than 20 kms of road surrounding the site will receive greatly enhanced mobile coverage which includes Sunraysia Highway and Beaufort-Lexton Road.

Andrew Sheridan, Optus’ Vice President of Regulatory and Public Affairs said, “We recognise that reliable mobile coverage is most critical and a lifeline for regional areas, which is why we are pleased to work alongside the Victorian Government to deliver this site.”

“This site has been long awaited by the community, which is a testament to their resilience especially as they continue to recover from last summer’s bushfires. Mobile coverage not only means greater safety for those living, working and driving through this area by unlocking access to communication but also helps to facilitate contact socially with family and friends.”

Minister for Innovation, Medical Research and the Digital Economy Jaala Pulford said, "We know how important mobile connectivity is, especially in regional Victoria and this will go a long way to enhancing business and community confidence not just in Lexton, but across Western Victoria."

Dan Tehan, Member for Wannon has welcomed the activation of the mobile tower at Lexton, after advocating for its expedited delivery.

Mr Tehan said he was pleased that the Lexton community would now have access to this critical infrastructure, bringing greater safety and security for those living, working and visiting the area.

Optus continues to invest in its network to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its Australian mobile network, with the new tower in Lexton providing a competitive telecommunications alternative for local residents and businesses.
