Optus is furthering its support for the City of Launceston with the announcement of a new sponsorship deal with the Launceston Football Club (LFC).
Optus has signed on as a platinum sponsor for the coming season, supporting both the men’s and women’s senior teams along with the ongoing support of the club’s player pathway program.
Speaking at the club’s home ground in Windsor Park yesterday Peter West, Optus Territory General Manager for Tasmania said, “sport is an important part of Tasmanian culture with the most popular spectator sport in the winter being Aussie Rules and we’re excited to now be a part of something so engrained in Tassie culture. For us, this is about Optus giving back to local communities in a meaningful way by supporting their passions and interests,” said Mr West.
“Today’s announcement is part of an ongoing relationship with the club and we are proud to continue to be a part of the club’s efforts to support young men and women both on and off the field,” said Mr West.
The new sponsorship deal will see the Optus logo on the back of both men’s and women’s training tops, along with boundary fence and scoreboard signage.
This follows on from the $10,000 provided to the Launceston Football Club in August to support their player pathway program which works to deliver support to players by way of mental and physical mentorship.
Sandra Boland, LFC President said, the support from Optus will help us to continue to build our club pathway program. The philosophy is simple: To support, develop and nurture our players throughout all stages of life - on and off the field.
“With this ongoing financial support from Optus, we will be expanding the program into all teams (Juniors, Seniors and Masters) which we believe will be a first in Tasmania.”
“The LFC is a progressive club that strives to continuously improve in the Women’s league. In 2019 we will be able provide increased support to our great women’s team thanks to this support from Optus. Our aim is to help lift Tasmanian female participation in what has traditionally been a male-dominated sport,” Ms Boland added.
“Along with the sponsorship of the football club, Optus will also be providing opportunities throughout the year for additional player, supporter and community benefits, including a range of community fun days and in-store events and promotions.
“We are looking forward to the 2019 season and will be heading along to plenty of games to cheers the Blues on,” said Mr West.
In addition to supporting the local community through this sponsorship Optus has completed work on 10 new mobile sites in and around Launceston. Over the last 18 months sites have been delivered at Mole Creek, Oatlands, Legana, Deviot, Swan Bay, Beaconsfield North, Hadspen, Summerhill North, Rocherlea and Kayena which are improving connectivity and providing greater competition and choice for residents and visitors across the region.
