Optus switches on new mobile tower in Campania

20 December 2018

Invests more than $2.6 million across the Southern Midlands

Optus today announced it has continued to improve mobile coverage across the Southern Midlands after switching on a new mobile tower in Campania.

The new tower will address a known black spot identified by the local community, providing residents and visitors with dedicated 4G mobile coverage to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data for the first time.

Optus’ Territory General Manager for Tasmania, Peter West said, “over the last 12-months Optus has invested $2.6 million in the Southern Midlands, switching on new sites at Jericho East, Outlands, Bagdad and Campania.”

“The new mobile tower at Campania, provides dedicated coverage for both locals and tourists travelling to the region and improve mobile reception for those travelling along both Colebrook and Tea Tree Road,” said Mr West.

Local Optus Franchisee Rob Elliot said the completion of these new towers in the Southern Midlands provides a competitive telecommunications alternative for local residents and businesses.

“In the last 12 months Optus has invested more than $40 million in its mobile network across Tasmania, and as the local franchisee it’s great that our customers are continuing to see an improving Optus network.”

“If anyone is looking for a new mobile phone plan or an awesome value broadband internet, home phone or TV entertainment package, make sure to come down to one of our stores in Hobart, Rosny Park or Launceston and chat to the team,” said Mr Elliot.

The Optus mobile network handles over 31 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 16,128 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.

Optus continues to invest in its network to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its Australian mobile network. The Optus mobile network possesses a unique mix of technology partners, global alliances and expansive spectrum holdings that position it as a leader in the Australian telecoms landscape.
